too bad that some industries couldn't be coded to require supplies only when they're building as most oil wells once in operation just sit there and only need occasional maintence to keep them running.

They can, I just rejected the idea as not interesting. Building routes to deliver supplies for 3 months or so would get boring fast.NekoMaster wrote:too bad that some industries couldn't be coded to require supplies only when they're building

Another industry grf might want to try it out though.

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
I've found a rather strange bug related to the Industry list and Industry windows. I've submitted a bug on Flyspray (https://bugs.openttd.org/task/6660), but later I isolated the bug to FIRS and am therefore reposting it here. I don't know if the Flyspray entry should be closed, this is AFAIR my first ottd bug submission. The first two pictures are from a newly started game, the only active NewGRF is FIRS 3.0.1. The bug has been manifest at least since the first 3.0 alpha, maybe longer.
This is the top of Industry list in the English (UK) translation, all fine and dandy:
This is the top of the same list in the Norwegian (Bokmal) translation, which looks seriously mangled:
I checked a couple of other languages too. It looks fine in Danish, but the Swedish has the same issue as the Norwegian. I'm unable to see if anything is wrong in the Web translator strings.
As you can see from the submitted bug, I suspected the STR_INDUSTRY_DIRECTORY_ITEM in trunk translation to be the culprit, but then I don't see why the problem surfaces only in FIRS.
Here's the Industry window for a quarry, where its stone is hauled off by horses, although no transport is reported. (No sand is being transported yet.) I suspect this to be another manifestation of the same bug.

The ideas make sense, but it would be better to fork FIRS for thatMcZapkie wrote:A attached chart with my vision, how Extreme FIRS should look like, to illustrate idea with two boosters.

http://dev.openttdcoop.org/projects/firs/repository
There are at least 2 public forks of FIRS already (SPI and GarryG Australian Industries), and I know of a couple of private forks.
Since v3, FIRS codebase is in pretty good shape, it's pure python, no C Pre-Processor stuff, and lots of things cleaned up and bugs fixed. So forks are quite a good idea

I try to compil the last source version of FIRS without success.
I have theses errors
I follow this compiling help http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/firs/pus ... #compiling
Do you have any idea ?
Thanks
I have theses errors

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
I'd guess graphviz is missing. It's supposed to be optional, so this isn't an intended errordkarn wrote:I try to compil the last source version of FIRS without success.

I'd need to uninstall graphviz on my system to diagnose it though

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
But i already install graphviz
I am a noob in compiler installing and this is a nightmare to do it correctly !
Code: Select all
requirement already satisfied: graphviz in c:\python36-32\lib\site-packages

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
Ok the problem is that the compile doesn't work on Windows
This is not easy to fix, I don't have any Windows computers to test

So i will wait for a fix, or maybe i will install a virtual machine but i know nothing on linux.
Thanks for information.

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
Let's invent some possible FIRS economies.
Cards on the table, they're unlikely to be added; I already have ideas for the remaining economies I want to add. But maybe I refine those ideas with help. Or maybe there is something neat I didn't think of.
What can't change:
- industry production mechanics (primary supplies, secondary processing)
What can change:
- specific types of cargo, industry
What makes a good economy?
- clear theme (industry types or region/climate)
- clear idea if it's 'basic' (less than 20 cargos) or 'complex' (more than 20 cargos)
Ideas go below this line here

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
Vehicles should be measured as pieces (one vehicle) instead of weight (tons of vehicles.) Makes more sense because they're big pieces of equipment, not like lumps of coal. Also most vehicle GRFs handle them as pieces already.

Does FIRS genuinely stand for FIRS Industry Replacement Set?

No and yes, in that order.alluke wrote:Vehicles should be measured as pieces (one vehicle) instead of weight (tons of vehicles.) Makes more sense because they're big pieces of equipment, not like lumps of coal.
Not in my experience. Cargos with weird units are awkward for vehicle grf authors. Also most vehicle GRFs handle them as pieces already.
It could. It's just FIRS. The precise reversed-acronym is up to you.Gwyd wrote:Does FIRS genuinely stand for FIRS Industry Replacement Set?

Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
Well, that's not entirely true, neither easy to achieve. Each vehicle GRF author tends to draw "vehicles" in their own way, so there's no guarantee that a wagon transporting "5 vehicles" will actually show five vehicles.alluke wrote:Also most vehicle GRFs handle them as pieces already.
Also, "vehicles" itself is a very broad definition. It can refer to cars, which usually weight between 700kg and 2tons, but even tractors or trucks, which obviously weight much more than that. So, having the amount of vehicles displayed as tons is at least less of a source of confusion.
For example, in my attached image, each flatbed wagon is transporting "18 tons of vehicles", but there is obviously only room to draw two cars on each wagon. Again, it's a representation. I think it's better than saying the wagon is transporting "9 vehicles" while you can actually only see 2

(by the way those cars are Citroëns from the 1950s, so 2CV's and DS's... they're included in the French set I'm building

The French Narrow Gauge Train Set is now released! Get it here
Re: FIRS Industry Replacement Set - Development & Translations
I agree that using "tons" is better than pieces. there is many issues with ECS vehicles, which weight is few tons and shipping cost is tweaked accordingly. If grf maker is not aware of it, vehicle carrier would be both overpowered and overweighted
Of course such issues can be handled by cargo_unit_weight variable, but not all grfs are using it.
