It's that time of year again
The Christmas theme is now up! If you've got your profile set to the standard Transport Tycoon Forums theme, then you should see our nice winter theme now. You may need to press CTRL-F5 (or equivalent in your browser) to force the graphics to refresh, though.
There are still a few things that are broken or wonky in the theme following the phpBB 3.1 upgrade. If I have a chance I'll try to look at some of them tomorrow night. (e.g., some of the text on the snowy background is white and doesn't show up). If you spot anything else that's wrong, please let me know by posting in this topic.
If you don't want to use the Christmas theme, you can change the theme in your User Control Panel to the "Transport Tycoon (temperate)" theme. This is available year-round.

You know, it might be interesting to have a Sub-Tropical theme for those that may want it or live in Tropical regions of the world.orudge wrote:The Christmas theme is now up! The only thing I hate about the christmas theme is that the white snowy background makes my eyes bleed.

I hate it all.NekoMaster wrote: The only thing I hate about the christmas theme is that the white snowy background makes my eyes bleed.
But I especially enjoy how the christmas smilies and their ridiculous smallness affects all the themes.
Re: It's that time of year again
The best part of the Christmas theme is how Redirect Left loathes it. That makes me want to petition for this theme to be a permanent year-round fixture.Redirect Left wrote:I hate it all.NekoMaster wrote: The only thing I hate about the christmas theme is that the white snowy background makes my eyes bleed.

You are more than welcome to produce one. If you can provide it, Owen can surely upload it.NekoMaster wrote:You know, it might be interesting to have a Sub-Tropical theme for those that may want it or live in Tropical regions of the world.

As soon as i see the smilies, i just revert to a greasemonkey script to rewrite the image urls back to normal smilies, so at max it irritates me once and then i go digging for the scriptChrill wrote: The best part of the Christmas theme is how Redirect Left loathes it. I'm the same in real life. It's a total non event for me, normal day. No decorations at all in the flat.Supercheese wrote:Bah, silly Grinches!
Edit: oh no. My phone isn't updating and giving me the Christmas smilies
Re: It's that time of year again
The decorations help to light up the flat when THE WHOLE WORLD HAS GONE DARK. Let's face it, us Swedes get sunlight from 9am to 3pm up to mid-February (and even worse further north). We need Christmas light for that reason. People decorate their balcony railings with sequential lights and they help make the streets and houses just that little bit brighter. It makes a big difference.Redirect Left wrote:I'm the same in real life. It's a total non event for me, normal day. No decorations at all in the flat.Supercheese wrote:Bah, silly Grinches!
EDIT: I had to look up the sunrise/sunset in Stockholm. At worst, 22nd December sees sunrise at 8:44 and sunset at 2:50pm. That's depressing. In Kiruna, Northern Sweden, there's no sun from 11th December to 1st January. It never rises above the horizon. Now THAT is depressing.

I'm not a grinch, just feel Christmas has become too commercialised instead of being about family and such.Supercheese wrote:Bah, silly Grinches!

Re: It's that time of year again
Its the same here in Canada, not everyone decorates their apartment, but there are a handful of people that do (I'm not one of them though, no point since we don't do christmas at my place, we spend it with family)Chrill wrote:The decorations help to light up the flat when THE WHOLE WORLD HAS GONE DARK. Its actually kinda interesting sometimes seeing Low and mid rise apartment buildings with balconies decorated, even at the highest floors where not many will see them unless you look up.
It would actually be nice if there was a Canadian Building set where around November to February some buildings are dressed up in christmas stuff, even apartment buildings (some even with flashing lights)

And that is why we have the Christmas theme, it can act as replacement for the sun.Chrill wrote:The decorations help to light up the flat when THE WHOLE WORLD HAS GONE DARK. There is one good thing about Christmas. I can play the most depressing christmas song and no one thinks anything of it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9jbdgZidu8 - I do love it so

Re: It's that time of year again
While I love to get together with people and enjoy food and a couple of drinks, one thing I hate about December is everwhere and everything is christmas inside and out, stores are all red and green and all playing annoying ass christmas music, TV and radio replay the same christmas themed stuff over and over again. Its especially bad on Sunday and daytime because its 6-8 hours of bleh.
Though I don't have Cable anymore (way too expensive in Canada for limited crappy basic cable) I'm just glad that youtube and netflix doesn't shove christmas down your throat and force you to watch christmas themed videos and shows like watching TV forces you to do.

White text ???orudge wrote: (e.g., some of the text on the snowy background is white and doesn't show up).
That would be my doing from a few years back; I'm sure you'll remember me reminding you of the topic from the year before a while back ... so should be rather easy to find.
Can I have a screenshot of that please? I'll have a looksie at what needs to be changed in php. <- no promisses as per usual but it'll be my pleasure to have a looksie.
I disable pictures too by default these days and you will not believe what I needed to enable again just to be able to post ... just saying that my tripple-layered tinfoil hat has been quadrupled in layers in the meantime .... and yeah ...
Anyhoo ... early merry christmass to you all and all that jazz ... have a lovely time with your family ... still here reading.
