Mister Jim Powers,

I realy like the way you tweak around with city populations.
But consider this, a hudge town (pop above 300.000) ll generate enormous amounts of passengers and mail.
Soon it ll be Christmas and every one ll write a letter or send a card to his frends and family. At christmas day all those people will go for a visit.
Your town is a "one" town, not a cluster of towns, so there can be a verry limited amount of stations (considered the size of the town).
Stations soon the situation ll be grimm, the spectacle of thousands and thousends of people crowded at the platforms surrounded by huge piles of mailbags :lol: :lol: :lol:
I hope you can tacle this problem and let your inhabitants have a nice christmas with the people they love and recieve there mail. :))

Extreme Cities

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-forum Family;

What kind of a guy would want to leave a bunch of people waiting at a station with Christmas coming, and Holiday mail being piled up on the station platform?:oops: Not I, Mr. Zimmlock. so, as I speak, 3 cities are completed and now I'm installing Subway stations in the city of San Francisco, and so far:?:,the population (in San Francisco alone) is still over 520,000!

There are:
10 subway stations in Salem
16 subway stations in San Jose
32 subway stations in Seattle
and
36 subway stations in San Francisco
Total stations =94

I believe I wont disappoint those people this Christmas.

And Merry Christmas to all of the wonderful people in TT-Forum! :D

Always,
Jim (City Maker) Powers

If I'm right, subways are built like this:

Oh, I used some cheats in new game to quickly do example, like year and money (to bribe authorities).

As the town grows, subway is remained in the middle of the town, so it has qite many passengers to carry then.

My Subway System

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Troopper5;

"You're on the right track" (RR pun) I downloaded your example and saw your "raised" subway stations. However, Sir, I usually keep my subway stations underground. I have several scenarios with subways. I Think they're the most fun to make and run, in large cities. This way you will "look cool' as Mr. Me-Simon says. I have a screenshot and an example of how they work. It was posted november 30, 2003. The screen shot shows my latest design, a dual (double) station. I used this style on my latest scenario*Extreme Cities*. BTW it's almost complete.

A Guide to My Subway System

Post by Jim Powers »

TT-Forum Family;

IT IS FINISHED! *Extreme Cities* scenario is completed.

There are [4] extreme cities, the largest 525,000+ people!
Each has space for [3] airports.
There is a total of [94] subway stations!
And, enough space left for you to put plenty of Industries, etc.

Over at TTD Patch mailing list, I just wrote a Guide on how my subway system works. There are [10] steps to making the subs run most efficiently. I strongly suggest that you use this Guide when you download my *Extreme Cities* scenario.

Always,
Jim Powers

Guide with Scenario

Post by Jim Powers »

Mr. Prof. Frink;

I would like to do that, Sir, if you'll tell me how.

Mr. Zimmlock;

I'm glad to know that those people wont be waiting at the station,
(is that a subway station?) and will be home for Christmas. :lol:

Guide for Running My Latest Subway system

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

From the "feedback' which I've received, there seems to be some that have problems making my subways run efficiently.
So..........
A GUIDE FOR RUNNING MY LATEST SUBWAY SYSTEM

[1] Use the Transparent mode to install your system. Remember,
as much as possible, the subway runs underground.

[2] Dual Sub Stations are: (2) 5 tile stations with 1 (signal) tile between.
In my scenario you'll see a sign "Sub H 1 & 2". That's where it goes.

[3] There are (3) types of my Dual Subway Station System.
A. All underground : A road and buildings above you on each side.
B. Split-level : The 1st (or last) sub station below ground, the other above.
C. All above ground: The (2) stations are at the same level as the city.

[4] I had to use the "road" tunnels to show where the subway goes. In the
scenario you'll see a tunnel without a road. Take out that 'road' tunnel
and install a RR tunnel.

[5] All subway tracks are in a "Loop". It means that there is only 1 RR track,
and all subways go the same direction. In Extreme Cities, there are:
(3) loops in Seattle, (1) loop in Salem, (2) loops in San Jose, and
(3) loops in San Francisco.

[6] Lack of enough signs prevented me from placing a sign at each station
on the "G" loop. Speaking of signs, since I had no more signs, I identified
my Airports in this manner. They are raised ( I like them that way.) And
the 6 x 6 space is stuffed with yellow trees. (3) Airports to a city.

[7] Notice where the Green spaces run. That's where the RR track is to be laid.
Where the tunnel starts, I put "stone" tiles around it, out of the cities, only.

[8] All the loops connect on the outer edge of the cities, and you can even have them
connected to the other cities, in case you so desire.

[9] I strongly suggest that your subways be the same type trains and I've designed
the train length to be: Engine, Mail car, (6) Passenger cars, Mail car, Engine.
10 piece trains are the most efficient for my scenarios.

[10] Be sure to place your sub trains as follows. Train #1 goes to Sub A 1, then to
Sub A 5, on to Sub A 9, then back around to Sub A 3, then Sub A 7, and on
to Sub A 11. Notice all the ODD numbered stations are alternating and serviced.
Train #2 does the same thing, only using EVEN numbered Sub stations.

I hope this guide will make your subway experience as exciting as I have found it to be.

Always,
Jim Powers

Jim: Here's a zip file containing your scenario and the instructions from the previous post.
If you have XP, you'll be able to open them using it's zip handler, otherwise you'll need winzip, or (as I prefer) winrar

Mister Jim Powers,

I played your scenario, to see what its like to make a Subway empire, I just see no use in the dual sub station configuration. I made platforms of 11 tiles and trains of 22 units (two engines to gain more speed), two units more than the dual station configuration. I just tested the scenario. I only build the entire system at San-F. not 3 loops but one big loop covering all 3. I was confronted with one station place devided in two levels, and the local town refused me to destruct and level the place. :(
In renamed all the stations in a sequence of A, B, A, B and so on. then i deployed 18 trains, the uneven numbers serviced the B stations and the even once the A stations. ( they have to be released and serviced in an exact sequence)
At first sight everything runs fine :) But i was not able to transport more then 50% of the people waiting at the stations. (remember it was just a test.)
During the construction of my subways, i found out that a lot of inhabitants left the town, i hope it is possible to keep the towns populations a little the way they are, over 200.000 persons left to other places despite my efforts.
It is a swell scenario, ill run more tests and ll report my experiences. 8) 8)

I have never seen a running game with a city with a "natural" population above 20.000 :wink:
