Turning "off" local authorities.
Hi, Long time lurker, first time poster.
As the title suggests, i am looking for a way to turn off local Authorities, with the intent of creating a metro network.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Is that magic bulldozer in the cheat menu what you want? Press ctrl+alt+c to open the cheat menu.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Now to try this cheat menu you speak of.
Re: Turning "off" local authorities.
One thing to note - it means you can delete local authority roads/buildings etc - but it will still lower your ratings and prevent you from building stations.
The best way to use it, in general (unless you just want to wipe a town off the map) is to plan where you want your stations and clear an area for them first, then build them - then clear the area for the tracks. The idea being that deleting a small number of houses for your stations shouldn't prevent you building the stations, but if you delete the whole area you'll be using, it will most likely put your rating too low to build stations. You can always build track, so that isn't a problem.

Word of warning about the Magic Bulldozer - Turn it off when you're done otherwise you can all kinds of problems as towns can demolish industries and (I think) even your own statiosntwisties wrote:Thank you for the prompt reply. Now to try this cheat menu you speak of.

I hope there will be a function in the cheats menu to disable Local Authorities completely though.. Always have to bribe them in order to create a real life route..ugh!

Re: Turning "off" local authorities.
I must be doing something wrong, because I leave magic bulldozer on all the time and have never seen anything get removed by the local authorities. Multiple games past the year 3000 and nothing happens. I use FIRS and a lot of stuff is interconnected, so I would get massive backups and warning messages if something was removed.
And the local authorities completely ignore my bulldozing activities. I can bulldoze half the town with no effect on my ratings.

Same here. I'm usually running the game with the Magic bulldozer on. Apart from a few accidents where I inadvertently razed an industry, I haven't discovered any negative consequences.

I keep local authorities set to "Permissive" but have never once touched the cheat menu and would support its elimination.
Re: Turning "off" local authorities.
The cheat menu is mainly for testing, so it shouldn't be removed, or at the very least its functions should be kept as console commands. They are there for a reason, like quickly testing NewGRF for example.
In topic: I too have noticed the local authority ratings don't seem to be affected by the use of the magic bulldozer cheat, and this is IMHO how it should be, as the cheat should exist outside of normal play. The magic bulldozer is pretty old, so perhaps this has changed since those early days.
As for it causing industries to be demolished by town growth, at the very least I just tested it by starving a town out of real estate other than tiles where industries are placed, and not once did the town demolish them, so perhaps that too has changed. But I still wouldn't risk it.

This is like your opinion man. If you do not like it, make your own fork.Baldy's Boss wrote:I keep local authorities set to "Permissive" but have never once touched the cheat menu and would support its elimination.

Let me elaborate it a bit.

This game is played by many people in many different ways and these hacks are often necessary to support some form of the gameplay.
For example I like more fiddling around in the game and for me it has become more like a building game even when it was not like this in the beginning.

Re: Turning "off" local authorities.
With magic bulldozer on, towns can and will demolish industries. It's random so it's meaningless to say whether it's rare or common, but I've seen it happen only once.
It's unlikely, for multiple reasons, that the cheat menu will be removed. No need to cheat this thread as a poll for / against it

Re: Turning "off" local authorities.
Towns don't remove stuff except of their own houses and landscape objects like trees, rocks etc. so the magic bulldozer is irrelevant (in code, towns always use DC_AUTO flag or they check the land in other way). If you saw something like that, Andy, then it was a bug probably.

In case it is not sarcasm: cheat menu is highly useful for testing (for example, I am using it during AI testing).Baldy's Boss wrote:I keep local authorities set to "Permissive" but have never once touched the cheat menu and would support its elimination.
