Re: NetTrans [OTTD]
Thanks for your comments! More shots are following.
I've also uploaded a GRF list to the first post.
Now here's a nice string of connected (in a way) screenshots.
The rail interchange near Clown, a marvel of compact engineering in tight spaces. Building in tight spaces was one of my favourite challenges on this map.

The other end of the tunnel, Spatchcock Club Station. Bauxite trains load from several nearby mines...

...And take it to this harbour for transfer to ship. This harbour also handles goods from the Plastics plant.

The bauxite ends up at Fun Kettle Aluminium Plant, which is at the exit of a busy canal.

Just east of here is Beaver station, where both local and intercity trains call. Diesel trains are seen on one of the few non-electrified lines, one delivering bauxite and one taking goods...

A mixture of mostly Dutch and 2CC Trains (the old version Beta 5) with a bit of Japanese mixed in. (also the old version 2.1a, that was still compatible with regular rails)Marshy wrote:Awesome screens Jake, may I ask what train/rail set you're using?

...To Missile Paper Mill. This busy mill is supplied by wood trains and log rafts...

...which form an endless raft seen here passing through the suburbs of Missile and Ruru Rum Art.

The wood trains load here. Also seen is a green Fred's Transport logging truck...

...later seen fully loaded passing over another prime example of compact junction work. This harbour handles both coal and oil: a tanker loads via pipelines from a nearby oilfield, and Strawberry Starship Base Coal Mine exports coal by ship to...

Lace Newts Harbour and Steelworks. A local train pulls into the island platform, and heavy scrap trucks trundle through the city all day and night, carrying scrap from the recycling plant.

The local train next calls at the "new town" of Bar Odour, just down the line from Lace Newts. Built around the station, the freight trains divert just south of the textile mill. A Fred's bendy bus is also seen, these were instrumental in getting Bar Odour of the ground.

Tiger Island [OTTD]
Here's a preview of the latest map I'm working on...
The scenario is available if you want it
"Tiger Bay Village, the most popular tourist spot on Tiger Island overlooks tranquil, tropical Tiger Bay and sports a pristine beach and five-star resort facilities. A double decker bus connects the two main resorts with the village and a ferry from the capital, Tujakat, unloads at the dock."

Re: NetTrans - Emperor Jake's Screenshots [OTTD]
Tiger Island is very much still under construction and will yield more awesome screenshots when it's more complete. In the meantime, a little progress has been made in NetTrans. It is now 4185 there, and the train count has passed 900. If this continues, NetTrans will be my first game to reach 1000 trains.
I tried my hand at making an animated gif. Here is Daimyo Wafer, home of the NetTrans HQ, in the years 1931, 1962, 2237, 3104, and 4185. (Edit: Updated version of gif)

Old version here
It was easier than I expected and fun to make, more to come soon

Re: NetTrans - Emperor Jake's Screenshots [OTTD]
Does anyone know if it's possible to embed the .gifv version? It loads much faster and is more efficient than a traditional gif, and imgur converts them automatically.
Here is a ten frame composition of the city of Hipster from the years 1930, 1939, 1959, 1982, 2122, 2520, 2803, 3075, 3540 and 4185. I made the frames slightly longer this time.
Hipster was the end of the first branchline off the Daimyo Wafer line very early in the network's history. You can see the evolution of the station and how the town grows to surround it. Also note the freight trains and how they're bypassed through a tunnel later on.

The station set can be downloaded here, in case anyone wanted to know.
Here's another animated screenshot. This one focuses on Energy Silo Aluminium Plant, the most productive industry on the map. However, the timeframe is smaller, as the plant itself was only opened in the 2570s, constructed on reclaimed land. The frames are as follows:
- 2560, Before the plant was built, essentially how the area looked up to 2570-ish
- 2576, the new plant opens and is serviced by a basic pier.
- 2714, the dock is extended as more ships service the plant.
- 2793, a rail cargo terminus is built to serve incoming bauxite trains.
- 2858, a turnaround loop is added, built on a small man-made island. The shipyard is expanded.
- 3104, as the station gets busier an extra platform is added.
- 3366, Another platform is added. Scrap trains now unload as well.
- 3540, The double track is converted to two one way tracks, and the loop is replaced by two more one way tracks, greatly increasing throughput.
- 3801, Ship and truck traffic increases, as competitor Fred's Transport makes inroads.
- 4100, the station becomes increasingly busy. Note mixed scrap and ore trains.
- 4151, The station is expanded yet again, bringing the total to 8 platforms.
- 4185, the present day. The station has been rearranged slightly to accommodate 24-wagon trains, however there are not many of that length yet.
Here is the full size version. Warning: It's big!

Re: NetTrans - Now Animated! [OTTD]
One more for today: this one's Kettle Llama Refinery, the first refinery to be connected on the map. In fact one of the first industries entirely, it opened in 1940 being serviced by trains and ships.
Today it is the second most productive industry on the map, after ESAP, and the most productive oil refinery. The frames are as follows:
- 1936, before the refinery was built. This is the site of the first major land reclamation project on the map.
- 1959, an oil train and a ship unload at the new facility.
- 2152, a cement plant has been built nearby, with its own platforms adjacent to the refinery's.
- 2336, the refinery has been expanded. A coal train is seen leaving the cement plant.
- 2516, Fuel trains now pick up from the refinery, causing more traffic at the station.
- 2713, The cement plant bulk platforms have been removed and the refinery station expanded. The cement plant is now served by ships and trucks only.
- 2959, More and more ships queue to enter the docking bay.
- 3400, The station becomes busier. A flyover and third track increase throughput.
- 3505, NetTrans changes its corporate colour to blue to "be more futuristic"
- 3898, Out of room on the mainland, Fred's Transport builds a truck loading station on an artificial island.
- 4185, The dock has been modified and Cargo EMUs now serve the station. The suspension bridge at Reborn Oily is the only thing that remains unchanged throughout.
Big version. Optimised it this time, it should be less huge.

Vehicle Showcase: Cargo EMU
Class designation: G-set (GXXX)
Amount: 136 units in 69 trains (mostly run in pairs), as of 4185
Found: All over the freight and shared network
Usage: Recyclables, chemicals, general processed products
Background: Introduced in 4117 as a solution to crowded cargo terminals, they quickly became a staple of NetTrans's cargo lines. They carry more cargo in 8 tiles than a standard loco-hauled train does in 10 tiles, making them ideal for the shorter cargo platforms in crowded areas. Plus their impressive top speed of 300 km/h enables the use of high speed freight lines.
Cargo EMUS at the recycling plant near Karmic Polyp. The blue/white ones carry recyclables from Daimyo Wafer, having replaced loco-hauled services on that route. Some displaced locomotives now haul extra mail trains.

The trains are ideal for length-constrained stations such as Rub Wood Docks. These examples transport mainly chemicals. These also replaced loco-hauled tanker trains.

This new industrial complex on the high speed freight line near Aw Baa is dominated by Cargo EMUs.

A new black and yellow unit speeds along the newly triplicated freight corridor near Aardvark Farm. An experimental prototype new passenger EMU is also seen.

A rare single unit passes over the new Scary Tit bypass. There are only two so far, they are in a special livery and distribute food to the shorter passenger stations. These will likely become more common.

Re: NetTrans - Now Animated! [OTTD]
Route Showcase: ESAP Freight Line
So we've all seen ESAP, have you ever wondered where those tracks come from, where do they go?
Route: Various locations - Energy Silo Aluminium Plant
Purpose: Bulk bauxite and scrap transport
Vehicles: Various Heavy diesel and electric locomotives including HXD3 class, HXN5 class (paired), EF2 class, EH2 class. Formerly also HS1, 92, 19 and EF6 classes.
Opened: 2730 with branches to Mylar Nerds and Fun Quokka (the latter now replaced by trucks)
Full trains run parallel towards ESAP, under a plastics plant and over a busy canal near Pet.

After unloading, the trains cross a larger waterway past Energy Silo and through a series of tunnels.

The in and out lines converge at a large hill. The long incline gives fully loaded trains a head start to enable minimum headways for maximum efficiency on the run into ESAP. On top is a constant queue where the lines come together.

The line splits to many destinations soon after. Here it passes over a highway. Soon the dedicated ESAP line joins with other freight trains.

Nun Base Recycling Plant is a major source of scrap metal. Cargo EMUs are also seen here.

Rob Llama is another scrap facility, and bauxite is also mined here, enabling mixed bauxite/scrap trains depending on demand.

Re: NetTrans - Now Animated! [OTTD]
Holy s***! NetTrans has just suffered its worst jam-up in history. Technically it was two jam ups, but in total roughly a third of all trains haven't moved within the past few months to a year. That's about 300 trains and it put a very large dent in profits.
Here's a map detailing the location and extent of the jam ups:
The purple one was caused by a badly paced signal at Primal Pocky after a minor upgrade, meaning trains couldn't exit. The passenger line is blocked until Opera Husk, where it connects with the freight network and freight jams extend all the way to Lace Newts and Daimyo Wafer.
The yellow one was caused by me forgetting to restart a train between Scary Tit and Happy End after taking a screenshot. It also affects passenger and freight trains as it was on a shared section of line. Its tail end meets up with the purple one in opposite directions.

Here's a new timelapse gif:
Mylar Nerds (formerly known as Hipster Drive)
Big version coming soon - these are an absolute PITA to upload with my atrocious upload speed of 0.25 Mbps.
Timeline: (years are approximate)
- 1940-2740: Nothing is built but the town grows slowly.
- 2740: Bauxite train station for new ESAP line is built.
- 2800: Canal is built, connecting major waterways across the map.
- 2858: Diesel branchline is built, terminating here.
- 2900: Freight siding is built to serve farms.
- 3000: The branchline has been electrified. The town has grown rapidly due to the new service.
- 3109: The maglev comes to town. Rail station merged, old one remains as a relic.
- 3120: Freight branch is built to the north to service other industry.
- 3200: Freight line is extended paralleling the canal.
- 3400: Farm branch is rebuilt to divert trains to dedicated line, allowing longer trains.
- 3800: Passenger platforms extended for longer trains. Double deck trains introduced.
- 3900: Town gets renamed to Mylar Nerds to decrease confusion with the other Hipster.
- 4000: Nothing much happens, town grows, traffic increases, stuff is adjusted
- 4100: Freight line is quad-tracked to cope with increased ESAP traffic.
