I recently had a quick chat covering many issues of the game, but also regarding ease of adding new vehicles and content with one of it's devs; here's what i got back from that part of the conversation...

Code: Select all

JacobD88
@jm764 Obviously i know specific game mechanics would be covered by a NDA; however, are you able to tell us how moddable the game will be in terms of adding our own user content and vehicles to it?

jm764
it is nda, but it's easier to mod than CiM2 is! ^_^
Fairly cryptic, but it does at least show they are considering modders...

Eh, not in my book. From what I see in the video, i think most I'd pay for it is around a tenner. I'll be waiting until Steam sales for it :)

It is actually very good. I'm currently beta-testing it (have been for some time) and although I can't really say anything about it I can tell you that it's thoroughly enjoyable, and the devs are listening to the community and picking up their suggestions pretty quickly. Worth full-price but at 18 bucks it's a steal. Also, in terms of moddability they're planning to make it easy to mod parts and expand on i.e. the vehicle list, as far as I've heard.

I watched the video from the link romazoon posted. Even though my German isn't that great and the guy had a slight accent, it was well worth to sit through all 50 minutes of it. To me it looks like a great game that's well worth its money. I'm especially pleased with the passenger distribution model. "We" have CargoDist and I'm damn grateful for that, but this is taking it to the next level. It's a bit like Cities in Motion 2, but then also with trains! It's also really cool how they visualised the cargo flow.

There's only one issue. GTA V is coming to PC in September as well and I cannot buy two games at the same time. I've done that before and still haven't played five of them...

I really like the look of this, might have to pre-order. My german is hopeless at that level, so I skipped through a lot of it just for the pictures, what is network building like?

Ooh that video looks good.

I hope you can take the trams off road, i used to love making interregional networks in CiM1... oh and if it can recreate the sheer joy of building lines through huge mountain ranges that TTT3D had, its close to the perfect game .

Well, well, in short TF is not as good as OTTD...

Now the long answer is, TF is as good as TT when it came out in 1994 ! but TF canno t compete with the 20 years of maturation OTTD is having now (I m talking of all the additionnal feature that have been added to OTTD).

Give TF some times to get mature, it s not even out yet but modding is already started at some point ( and game is planned to make it easy for modders), and improvement over the last month of Beta have been quite impressive on all sort of level (easier to build stuff, perfomance, UI, and more).

So don t get me wrong, TF is a very good game, i totally see it as the new Transport Tycoon (in real 3D) we all have been dreaming of since so long. realism and scale are the advantages of TF.

Finally the only problem i see, is that we may have to wait another 20 years to be able to play on big map(with huge cities) and with as many trains as in OTTD and in multiplayer...but i don t count "the moore law or theory", it might accelerate things a bit ;).... and i also forget the fact that if it s a commercial success the develloper will keep working for the game (and ultimately make a sequel) !!!

to resume if you like OTTD you will probably like TF. Personnaly i will keep playing TF in the future, but OTTD too !!!

DISCLAIMER : please beware that THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION over a game that will see modification upon release.

To sum it up. Wait for a better sequel? That's pretty bad to be honest :) . I don't understand that if the game is successful we will see a sequel, why not improve then the first game in the first place?

pavel, first i think you missread something cause nowhere i say "wait for the sequel", or maybe you don t remember how Transport Tycoon started, it needed a couple version to arrive to Transport tycoon Deluxe... that doesn t mean TT was not a good game to buy when it came out.

and to be clear on what you missunderstand, I meaned : if game is a success develloper will improve that game. They probably have already spent the money they had to start the show, they need to fill up the bank account, and if not, i see no reason why devellopers would invest more time and money in it...

And please don t be naive, Videogames is business. SO i believe they will make improvement or/and a sequel only if it s a success. (exemple : TT->locomotion , CIM 1 and 2, Railroad tycoon 1, 2 et 3)

Now go watch some BEta live streaming to get yourself a better idea of how the game is (zuerihb's live streamin link works again today apparently, look couple post up)

Those are some great pictures! I love the 2x5 track = 10 track station so much :) Especially the already quite large city around it! So looking forward to this...would you mind uploading some more screenies showing the possibilities of track laying (just some of your largest stations and the tracks in front of those)? :)

Oh and: I also believe this game will develop a lot over the next years. The developers put a lot of value on keeping the game open for modders it seems. That's great! Just getting the money in will be hard after a few years...so they eventually will have to create a successor to keep the game alive.

Unless they take the train simulator model of updating the base game for free every year or so, and making money off DLC content... Whilst simultaneously supporting the modding community... *Hopes*

In the meantime im just looking forward to release; "Not yet available" is there teasing me in Steam every time i look at my library ATM
