Re: [OTTD] Ivan Furlanis' screenshots
im a realist and this game looks realistic, i personally think yellow would be most realistic line to build, red is just to much island hopping
Re: [OTTD] Ivan Furlanis' screenshots
Although I must agree with this point, the red line would make the station approach to 16th Street Yard look better IMO.ZxBiohazardZx wrote:im a realist and this game looks realistic, i personally think yellow would be most realistic line to build, red is just to much island hopping

I vote yellow!

Re: [OTTD] Ivan Furlanis' screenshots
The red line works in that it taps into the most potential stations and therefore brings in the most income for the money spent over the long term.
The yellow line is the most direct one and will bring in lots of income quickly for much less initial outlay than the red line but it is a one shot deal with no potential for further expansion in term of stations.
My solution: Build the yellow line quickly. Then take the profits from the yellow line and build the red line at a slower pace.

Yellow or blue, but on a dam instead of a bridge.
(A bit like the Railroad to sylt, Germany. The island of Sylt is connected to the mainland by a dam, but it's only possible to reach by train. There is no road to it.)

Re: [OTTD] Ivan Furlanis' screenshots
12 years later, I've started to play with OTTD again
. Some weeks ago I downloaded the game and some NewGRFs, I set a 256 x 256 map and I found the same fun I had many years ago.

1930 Midland Railway by Ivan Furlanis, su Flickr
This is the map of my system, after 20 years of game. As you see, I use almost only trains, with just a ferry route between Lincoln and Thetford and two tram netwoks, one in Brighton and the other around Youlton.
(you should be able to see larger images cklicking on them)

1930 Lincoln by Ivan Furlanis, su Flickr
One of the most important rail terminal is in Lincoln. Here passengers can travel to Brighton via Midland Main Line or East Coast Main Line, while freight service is centered mainly in Boultham yard adjacent to the factory. The other freight yard (Yarborough) is used to receive goods trains.

1930 Youlton by Ivan Furlanis, su Flickr
Another big rail terminal is in Youlton with its four-track Central station. Here the East Coast Main Line branches in two short spurs to Youlton York Gate, close to the sawmill, and Thetford.

1930 Hinckley by Ivan Furlanis, su Flickr
The smallest town in the map, on the Cranborne Line. Here just slow trains stop, while semi-fast use the passing loop track to overtake the all-stop service.
