Presenting...

The GRFs That Time Forgot!

Because over the years a lot of weird and wonderful stuff has been posted on these forums (and elsewhere), and I reckon a lot of it is now long forgotten or half remembered at best. I've got loads of stuff bookmarked and figured it would be worthwhile turning that into a forum topic that everyone else can benefit from, so here it is! Focus is going to be on older GRFs that aren't available on Bananas. I won't be uploading anything here, just posting some screenshots and linking to the original download location.

And yes, I know kamnet did a similar topic a few years ago, but I wanted to do my own rather than hijack that one. Expect regular posts, except for when I forget or can't be bothered. :P

Starting with...

Lamoot Radio Tower

Originally drawn by Lamoot in 32bpp (original post here), converted to 8bpp and coded as a new object by maquinista. GRF contains just the one object.

It wouldn't be considered as bump to post in kamnet's thread, as last post from this thread is from about 3 days (?).

Eh, last post in that topic was over three months ago, not three days. Besides, I can't edit the top post in someone else's topic. I'll eventually add a table of contents when I've posted enough stuff.

Actually, i saw kamnet's thread. I thought it was The Irish's thread. Though, on The Irish's thread, last post is from 7 days ago. Not that long.

If you wanted, you could completely hijack that thread. I can easily edit the first post to create a directory if you wanted. :)

A note on Lamoot tower, though. IIRC it stopped working with current versions of the game a few years ago once they introduced 32bpp sprites formally.

I took that screenie a few hours ago, the GRF works just fine. :) AFAIK maquinista only released the 8bpp version.

Higher Headquarters

Created by Peter1x9, this GRF replaces the final company HQ stage. It's worth skimming through the whole of that topic as the HQ went through many design changes; IIRC Peter released each version but this is the only one still available to download. For some reason the road type defaults to the old NA Roads Set but it is compatible with some other GRFs such as the UK Road Set.

Victorian Trams

Raichase made this mini Australian tram set way back when trams were still a new feature. Set contains four unarticulated passenger trams which come in different colours depending on date.

Small Airport Modern Style

Replacement graphics for the small airport. I've seen various attempts at making a modern style small airport but I think this is one of the better ones. I'm afraid I don't know who created it.

The airport? Unfortunately not, I don't think it's compatible with any roadset (it's a very old GRF). It wouldn't be hard to modify though, if someone felt inclined to do so.

TAN BLATCHMAN Town Names

I have no idea what Tan Blatchman is, but Dalestan coded this quirky town name set on behalf of azerbaijani.

If i'd modify the sprites to make it usable with OpenGFX roads, UK roads and TTRS roads, would you mind coding it ?
(though i don't even have the sprite files...)

May i be allowed to contribute ?

So i will.

French Train Set

This is a very old set as of what i know. In your NewGRF list, it will appear as "DB Set" and it will be said "Copyright 2003 by Michael Blunck". I don't know if he ever attempted at making a french trainset, and i'm afraid i don't know the real author's name, as i retrieved this on my hard-disk. In-game, some DB Set locomotives will appear, and the French Trainset ones will have different sprites, though having the same name as in the DB Set. Still, you can rename the locos ! And they work perfectly.

Well, the GRF was created by someone else and is unlicenced. Editing it for private use would be one thing, but I wouldn't want to do that publicly or on behalf of someone else. Leave it with me though, I'll try and figure something out.
