Here's the solution: A magical fairy that will whisk away all traces of bad will from your local authority, every Monday morning, just before the office opens.
This Game Script requires OpenTTD 1.10.0, or 1.10.0-RC1, or a nightly build later than January 5th 2020.

Well, 1.10 is finally released. This should still work unchanged, and really I don't expect ever needing to update it either.
I hope Eternal Love can serve as inspiration for other GS writers to integrate similar features

I just started using this on my first-ever server. Players are enjoying demolishing entire towns with no permanent repercussions.

For competitive servers it might not be a great idea honestly
The griefing potential is large.
The more sensible might be to have a GS that enforces some level of "town ownership" if you run a competitive server.

What I found to be the best in mp is to disable authority rating completely but not allow players to destroy anything in city centers.

My server is non-competitive and aimed at sandbox play and just building nice stuff. This works for us since it allows us to make changes to towns but still keep some of the charm of the game going.

Just gonna hit up this two year old thread in hopes of an answer.
I'm fairly new to the game and just wanted to basically do a creative game with no limitations. I can cheat 20 mils everytime I need them and someone pointed me to your script to keep city authority happy because I really needed a script like that. Only problem is it doesn't seem to work. I downloaded it from the ingame menu, created a new save for testing, nuked a city, fast forwarded and they still hate me. But since the game is on 12.2 and this script was made for 1.10 I thought, okay, let's scour the web for 1.10.3, download that and try there. Still nothing.
So I wanted to ask if I'm dumb, if I need to activate it somewhere ingame or if it stopped working directly after 1.10.0.

After you downloaded the script, but before starting the new game, did you go into the GameScript/AI settings and add the script there?
UPDATE: It looks like you also asked this question on Reddit and, indeed, you needed to activate it in the settings.
