[OTTD SCN+GS] The California Gold Rush Scenario

I have created a new scenario called Gold Rush, which combines the use of scenario editor with real world highmap, tailored game script and NewGRFs. It was created to play with my friends when we were looking for more challenging play. I would like to share it with you as well. If there are any issues, please let me know.

It is January 24, 1848. There was an important discovery of gold nuggets in the Sacramento Valley by James Wilson Marshall. You and some others are first to find out this information before thousands of prospective gold miners will arrive into San Francisco and the surrounding area. You decide to build up a transport company with prospect of getting very rich.
First you need to establish your foothold in this country by collecting 7500 Raw Cargo and 4000 Processed Cargo. Then you can head out into the mountains to collect 1000 Gold before the end of year 1855.

[How to start]
The scenario can be played solo or best in multiplayer. Best to play up to four players, with more players the cargos are chosen randomly, because there are only four processed cargo types.
In 2nd Jan 1848 the cargos are generated for the first player. The game starts in 24th Jan 1848, so wait until this date, when the game script will pause the game. At this time in multiplayer mode, the other players should join. The first player will have a popup question to start the game, which will unpause the game after several seconds.
At the end of the year 1855, the game will pause and the winner will be revealed. The game will not continue past this year.

Bronze medal - it is not too hard to achieve, but it is not granted either
Silver medal - in multiplayer game other players may help you achieve it, but still you need to start well to get it
Gold medal - very hard to achieve, you need to have expert knowledge of the game

Played and tested with version 1.9.2.

This will help you start with the game. Do not read it if you want to experience the settings in game.

  • The cost of terraforming, water ways, bridges, tunnels, clearing squares are greatly increased. Use shift before building expensive structures and try to avoid special squares like fields and rocks.
  • The cargo payment rates are tripled and gold is six times more profiting than base game. This increases the speed of the game.
  • The subsidies are 3x the profit of normal payment, which makes them very lucrative.
  • There are two types of rails, 80km/h are around half the price of 128km/h, so choose wisely which track you want to use.
  • In the beginning, there are two locomotives, cheap weak one and expensive medium strong one. The weak one may not get over one elevation if you overburden it. Later two more locomotives will come with the strong one being able to climb the mountains to get to the gold mines.
  • The maximum length of bridges and tunnels is reduced to 8 tiles.
  • The maximum train length is 4 and the station spread is also 4.
  • The vehicle breakdowns are turned off to make it playable.

20191017 - Replaced 2cc trains grf for correct one. Now the armoured van is available instead of wooden box van for gold.
