[OTTD]Roel's Unrealistic Fantasy scenario

Post by rbos86 »

A new thread, as a fan of the game (Really, really thanks after all this years of gaming for bringing back this game to my PC!).
Why a new thread? Because I can.

New game:
NewGRF -list is following:

Started on January 1st 1875, after 2 years and a couple of months building I came up with this 2 stations -plan. (See also my screenshot -thread!)

More than 100 years further. See also the sceenshots of this game.

I'm addicted, like I wrote somewhere before on this forum. The map is huge, and the improvements on the game I started are massive.
I'm a martyr of the most Holy Grail in this game -formula; Things are going almost too well. I really don't know what to do, except for embracing this problem and continue to build.
I'm really awesome :wink: .

Well, here it is:

In this current game, I failed somewhere...
I brought too many coal to the power plant, causing it to close down. I figured this out when I reached the year 1930 or something.

Although NARS is a nice set, I don't play any further with it. I like my older games too much, being unrealistic.
So, new game at hands. No savegames anymore, just screenshots so now and then...

I'm showing last savegame so you can see what went wrong. No censorship attached. Look at me failing with NARS!

I'm done for a while...
Well, I also bought Transport Fever via Steam, time to learn that one.

I'll be back also..! (In a year, month, decade (?), who knows...?).
Greetings,

I've had a nice game going on, with result:
WorldTrans, 23 Aug 2051 - Norm_SCR.png

Next the savegame for those who likes to study what I've build:
WorldTrans, 7 Jul 2051.sav
(2.1 MiB) Downloaded 185 times
Do you like the way I build? It's been a nice game, although not matching and different railtracks together, but I've found out how it works.
Sometimes not beautiful, like a spagetti -station for goods, but really Moshing efficiënt. Do you like such thing?
Please write down then.

I've tried to load the scenario of The Netherlands, the one recently added by Quast65.
The strange thing that I don't understand is the next error -message:

Go to one of your games in your "old" version of OpenTTD, that has all of those favourite GRF's loaded in the active GRFlist.

1.Open the NewGRF settings window:
Example547.png
Example547.png (37.34 KiB) Viewed 6040 times
Check if all of your favourite GRFs are in the Active NewGRF list (the top one, in this screenshot its empty).

2. Save that list (Save Preset, in Dutch: Voorkeursinstelling selecteren)

Now go to your "new" version of OpenTTD.
1. Open the NewGRF settings window
2. Open the Select Preset dropdown menu (Dutch: Voorkeursinstelling selecteren)
Example548.png
Example548.png (4.54 KiB) Viewed 6040 times
And load your previously saved GRFlist into a new game (most advisable to do this in the scenario-editor and save the scenario under a new name, before you start the game)

Make sure that the new version of OpenTTD has access to all of your GRFs.
Probably all of the ones you have downloaded via Bananas (the ingame downloader) will be found instantly.
The ones you downloaded manually (for example straight from these forums), you maybe will have to copy over from the directory of your old version of OpenTTD to the directory of the new one.
When you load your GRFlist you will get a warning stating which GRFs couldnt be found, if so, then search those and copy them over ;-)

Hope this helps!

I undertood everthing you wrote, yet I don't get JGRpp work like I want to. Even also problems with OpenSFX...

Does it help when I wait for the new OpenTTD version to arrive so that the scenario is playable to me?

Hmmm, I don't play "vanilla" OTTD anymore, always JGR patchpack, so I haven't checked it with "vanilla" versions.
Apparently the scenario's dont work with "vanilla" and they need to be played on a recent version of JGR-pp...
I guess that when a scenario is created on a patched version of OTTD, it doesnt run on "vanilla", only on (some) patched versions.

So, you need to take some time to set-up JGR, so it plays like you are used to…
Sorry about that :( , I will put this disclaimer on the download page of the scenario's.

The only other option is that someone makes the scenario's from the sources I provided, that do run on "vanilla" OTTD, but I believe importing-towns is not a feature in "vanilla" , for that you will still need a patched version of the game and then it probably wont run on "vanilla" anymore…

Good to know this, I was already doubting if I should put these scenario's on Bananas, but now I surely wont ;-)

Again, apologies and thnx for finding this out.

Re: [OTTD]Roel's Unrealistic Fantasy scenario

Post by rbos86 »

Something else!!!

I had finally inspiration, first time since 1998, when I stopped creating scenarios for Win95 due to writersblock. But it came back, with this...

I've build a scenario.

Beginning with the TerraGenisis for rough begin. Next a volcano (what else?). After this work I started creating rivers at sea-level. Not to be mistaken with computer-generated rivers.
Cities: Yes. Namely names. Had a couple of bright ideas, fanatsy-like, inspirational and some less big names.
NewGRF-List is following:
NewGRF_Folkainoland.jpg
NewGRF_Folkainoland.jpg (141.49 KiB) Viewed 2826 times
One name I'm proud of, deserved a beautiful place, is the city Roelmond:
Folkainoland_Roelmond.jpg
(764.41 KiB) Not downloaded yet

So, let's start playing this thing. I've spent some hours of work in here, so don't be too judgemental. I hope. :lol: 8)

Re: [OTTD]Roel's Unrealistic Fantasy with FIRS4

Post by rbos86 »

I play recently with FIRS4, or better, I'm trying to. I did learn quit much already. And I love this way of gaming OpenTTD.

I use:
-eGRVTS2;
-Dutch Trainset 3 XL;
-Iron Horse;
-U & Modern Railway (or so, modern railway since the new Iron Horse update);
-U & Road Vehicles;
-Lots of other newGRF;
-Weed.

The game started for me in 1860, I've build up a lot with Iron Horse, mainly for passengers and industry, since that year.
Currently I'm in the year 1957, I've build up even more, and with the Dutch Trainset 3XL since the arrival of the NS1200 in the year 1952. I use now the locomotives from the Dutch Trainset, planning to convert my passengers to Dutch Trainset, also.
Iron Horse is still there for FIRS4 industry. which I like a lot.

Here it is, my fine but chaotic work with FIRS4:
