Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
New month, new competition!
Theme:
"LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY"
... set by the last month's winners michael blunck and Voyager One
... freely open for interpretation...
As always, rules can be found HERE.
How to enter:
Easy - simply upload your image to this topic to enter or link it from a trusted site such as flickr, photobucket, DeviantArt, your personal website etc.
Uploading is preferred as it keeps things together. If you're linking from a URL, having a small 'preview' image and a link to a high-res image would be helpful.
If uploading direct to the wiki:
Let's keep entries in a certain named format for organisation reasons as well as keeping record of them in the entries topic and here. If you prefer to upload to the wiki, please keep it in the same naming format as other entries and inform me they are already on the wiki. Name format is - month|year|POTM_user name.
For example: 1016POTM_Dave.jpg / 1016POTM_orudge.jpg / 1016POTM_GeoGhost.jpg / 1016POTM_Ameecher.jpg
You get the idea
At the end of the month, this topic will close and a voting topic will be started with all the entries in for people to choose their top one.
All entries will be uploaded to the tt-forums wiki and stored there for voting and also for archive.
Entries close on the last day of the month, voting will be available for 7 days (approximately).
The winner will need to contact me about what they want the next theme to be and then that will be posted in the entry topic for the next month*. Then we repeat from there. Simple.
(* If the winner doesn't choose a theme within 7 days, the next month's theme will be an "Open" theme).
If you wish to change your entry, you may so long as the entries are still open. Simply upload a new one to the topic and remove your old one.
Otherwise, it may get confusing as to which one you are entering. If there are two entries submitted and you have not informed me which one you wish to be used, I will use the first one posted.
Cheers people!

Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
As it's halfway through October, might it be worth running this through November too?

Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
My daughter and I were headed down to the park along the Providence waterfront when I happened to notice tall masts and rigging. It turns out the Oliver Hazard Perry was at the dock and was prepping to leave. Instead of going to the playground, we stuck around to watch it depart.
Of course, I had broken my 50mm prime lens (my favorite!) a few days before and didn't have anything else in the car, so I had to use my cell phone.

Obviously, this goes into November as well...
Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
Regarding this rule, especially relevant this month:
The photo MUST belong to the entrant. Photos must be taken by YOU. They must be your photos and not someone else's.
What about photos I currently own, but were taken by (in this case) my grandfather? They are from long ago.

The rule says that you must be the owner of the photo. It doesn't mean you have to be the person that has clicked the camera, if fact, a year or two ago I have entered a photo that is mine but has been taken by my wife because I was on that photo. In that occasion I've made the same question to Geo and he said it was OK.Chrill wrote:What about photos I currently own, but were taken by (in this case) my grandfather? They are from long ago
Family belongings are basically your own and I see no problem for posting a photo like this.

It was questionable this one On paper, it had to be a photo that you yourself had taken.
However I think we swayed it a bit so if you didn't take the photo, you had to have a hand in being part of the photo. For example if you were in a group and helped compose the shot, or you were in the photo
But end of the day, it is down to discretion of the organisers!

Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
Geo, in your opinion, would Chill's grandfather's photo be valid or not?
Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
Right. I'll post it and you can rule me out if need be. Photo taken by my grandfather in 1962 or 1963, so it wasn't old at the time These tracks were replaced in 1964 with an underground metro system, so the photo can be no older than maybe late summer 1963.
EDIT: Photo removed

The rule says "no":
Michael
regards4. The photo MUST belong to the entrant. Photos must be taken by YOU. They must be your photos and not someone else's.
Michael
Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
Seeing how Michael is the previous winner (well, one of two) and therefore this is his theme, I will respect his wish and go find myself a photo of my own making.

Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
My post wasn´t "a wish". I only cited the rules.Chrill wrote:Seeing how Michael is the previous winner (well, one of two) and therefore this is his theme, I will respect his wish and go find myself a photo of my own making.
Of course, rules are not cast in stone. They might get changed, in case there´s need for.
regards
Michael
Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
Well, I had already quoted the exact same rule in my first post, with Geo and Voyager then starting a discussion about said rule.
My Scenarios:
Archipiélago Hermoso (Latest Release: Version 3.2)
Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)
Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
Although photos must be taken by you, or you must be involved in the shooting of them....
One thing I haven't thought about is entering a photo on behalf of someone else
If your grand-father wishes to enter the competition Chrill, and you are the person posting on his behalf, we could work something out! It would be something different and interesting at the very least.

I haven't even seen the photo in question!!!
(photo removed)...
Chrill - go get the camera!
(photo removed)...
As I see it now after all this discussion, this could be a perfect explanation of that rule. Either you've had your hand on the camera or you're part of the photo's setup...Geo Ghost wrote:Although photos must be taken by you, or you must be involved in the shooting of them....

Re: Photo of the Month - October 2016 - Entries
It's a fair clarification after all. My grandfather probably does not wish to partake since he passed away several years ago
Any photo which involved you in the process should count as your own.
