This has nothing to do with the ATB... Only when the train drove through a red signal and the accident happend, then it was the ATB. This is just bad luck.

failures always comes in three.

besides all the rails at Amsterdam is as old as my grandfather, it's about time they replace all that junk!
I went to Amsterdam yesterday, lucky I wasn't in it. :)

In the contrary, the west part of the station has brand new tracks, junctions and overhead wires.
But the curves are very tight, like at all large stations.
Perhaps the wagons were coupled to tight.
Then the rolling properties of the stock decreases severe.
The wagons then have problems to change direction from the straight.

I don't think that the wagons were coupled to tight, because there are permanent series of wagons. If the wagons were coupled to tight, it should happen before this and the engineer would have noticed it.

Maybe it's time we made a sticky topic of derailments in Amsterdam Centraal Station. :!:

LOL, that would be fun. If I look at the first picture it looks like the train got hold of some building materials. Question is whether that caused the accident or was a result from the accident.

I'm an engineer myself and i notice that very well when the cars are coupled to tight.
When you slowly enter a station with that, you feel a push in the back every time a Bogey runs through a junction.
In the beginning that was a large problem with the DDAR.
Also there was a huge wear on the junctions.
But please draw no conclusions, they are made often to early.
There can be hundreds of possibilities for this derailments.
Wait for the inquiry.
I get that reports at home, so if there is found a reason for this, i'll post it here.

I tought it was because of the tracks, because every time I go to Amsterdam Central (every month a few times) and I look at the tracks they seemed very old, and I know that there are some new tracks but that they were only in the station it self. And that they were working on that on platform 1 and 2.
But okay, you are the expert here. :D

Wow. It's wrecked pretty bad.
I don't know anything about trains, so I'll just wander off to somewhere with planes.

*wanders off*

The cause of the derailment isn't found yet.
But there have been recommendations that are taken over by NS.
All pushed passenger trains who consist of a BS driver stand or lok 1700\180 and up to 12 carriages and one lok 1700\1800 on the rear, are only allowed the drive 25 km\h instead of 40 km\h when entering or leaving Amsterdam CS.
We are ordered to pull up very careful when the lok is behind.
We are also ordered to apply the brakes with care to avoid shock waves through the train.
The trains have a length of approximately 330 meter and have to pass many very short junctions.
The push power is limited to the half.
