GRF in scenarios/maps

Post by aiyoung12354 »

so im pretty new to train/ship packs etc and have just found out that i dont have to play with the game issue trains.
which is great.
is there a way those packs like the UK train set can be added to a UK map or scenario. Because it seems a shame to download these better maps and only be able to use the trains that come with the game.

thanks

Use the GRF crawler to find GRFs to your taste. In particular, the UK Renewal set seems to be quite popular.

You can turn on the scenario_developer option to allow adding a train grf to the scenario, either in the scenario editor or once you've loaded it as a game. Adding a vehicle grf shouldn't break anything, but be aware it's not fully supported.

Oh dear, GRFCrawler is still a thing? Perhaps I should update some entries.

In any case, don't play the UK Renewal Set (UKRS1) - it is super old and dodgy. Try UKRS3, the UK Revival Set, from the in-game content download.

Many years ago, when most of these scenarios were developed, it was customary to not include NewGRFs because it was easy for players to add what they wanted themselves. However, it became discovered that users adding and removing NewGRF to on-going games and scenarios caused all kinds of bugs that were not the fault of the game code. So to fix this the game no longer supports adding and removing NewGRFs during game play. Meanwhile, most of the people who made those scenarios are no longer here to update their works appropriately.

As noted above, the solution is for you to enable the scenario editor, and then open the scenario yourself and add what you want before you start playing.
