I'm already completed New York rolling stock and start PATH system. I can send raw version of GRF without sprite alignment. If someone can code well, then contact me, I can draw good sprites.
P.S. I make it with GRFMaker, It can't create new railtypes.

Hello and welcome!

What license does your work have?
Always handy to state that, especially when you need someone else to code it (or add it to an already existing GRF).

For more information about licenses, see here:

Winner of the following screenshot competitions:

All my work is released under GPL-license (either V2 or V3), if not clearly stated otherwise.

Hi Tony

GRFmaker allows you to enter blocks of "raw" nfo, so if you can work out the nfo code support rail types you could use it with GRFmaker. I know that's easier said than done though!

Most work here is licenced under some version of GNU GPL, although all licences are fine.
When writing NewGRFs manually, there are 2 languages to chose from: NML, a meta-language, or NFO a hex-based language with a few more features. There are plenty of people around here who are handy with NML and NFO, myself included. I'd like to help, but I'm preoccupied with BRTrains and BRTracks. Good luck!

That is, Grfmaker is not suitable for creating GRF?

What takes most of the time: coding or drawing sprites?

Grfmaker is entierly suitable for making NewGRFs; that's were it got it's name. You can insert pieces of the NFO language into GRFmaker to get other features GRFmaker wouldn't otherwise offer. I'd say drawing and coding take similar amounts of time.

So, I can use GRFMaker for first time.
About licenses: How to get a The GNU license? (Or your one's?)

The licence your GRF is under is selected by you: you don't get a licence, you choose one. I use GNU GPL v2, because it allows people to build on my work, access my source code while still giving me the rights I want (i.e, credits) and means it can only be re-released by others under GPL v2. There are probably better and more detailed places to read about this licence.

Ok, thanks. I chose GNU GPL v2 license and already drew New York "Composite" subway cars.
Send spriteset tomorrow

That depends on how complex the set is, and how many "special" features you code. IMO for a basic train set with no special features the spriting takes much longer than coding, once you understand the coding. Working out the coding in the first place can take a great deal of time

NFO is completely done in hexadecimal, making it super complex.
No pics no clicks. Seriously.

Actually, there are three (3) languages. Gwyd may have forgotten about Michael Blunck's m4nfo which comes with a complete tutorial. 8)

So, I've finished NYC Subway and PATH Sprites. On weekend I'll send test version of GRF file. Next purpose is Chicago "L".
What You think about it?
