Hey Pikka, I was wondering. On PikkaWiki it has what seems like 32bpp models for av8. Does that mean it's compatible with 32bpp stuff or is that just for show?

Av8 was rendered from 3d models, but the models were created with small 8bpp sprites in mind so they're rather undetailed and poorly constructed. If I were creating 32bpp/ez aircraft, I'd use better models and textures (like the pineapple trains).

That said, everything's "compatible"; there's no technical reason you can't use a combination of 8bpp and 32bpp, or regular and extra zoom, newgrfs in OpenTTD.

Is it possible to release a Lite version with just the zeppeling aircrafts? I think they would be an excellent addon for those who prefer to keep the original planes but also want the zeppelings.

It's possible, but I'm not going to do it. Other people are welcome to use the av8 sprites for their own projects (I assume you'll also want to remove the range limitation and make the costs more in line with the default planes?).

TL:DR: Made a rangeless GRF Version. Download Below.

For NekoMaster, but also others. I couldn't find a modified version of the GRF (Without Ranges) so I spend some time figuring out how this GRF business works and removed the ranges. (Though, I died a little inside, I might have grown a bit too )

Anyway I don't know if Pikka would mind or if its against forum rules. But since Pikka basicly gave the instructions as to how to do this, I figured I'd save a lot of people a lot of hassle and just share the Rangeless version.

If it is a problem I'll remove the GRF Asap.

Well, if you modified it, against the aims (but with the otherwise tacit approval) of PikkaBird, it should probably be renamed to reflect that so that others are not confused as to who created and is maintaining it. I'm sure PB doesn't care since he's no longer maintaining AV8.

If you could change the filename, the grf name, the description and the grfid, I'd appreciate it.

44 44 0A 01 is the grf ID (please change this significantly, don't just increment the last byte!). The part up to the first 00 is the grf name and the rest is the grf description.

I have to say though. This motivated me quite a bit to start making my own GRF. I've yet to see a cool/Large helicopter pack. So I might see if I can one up my game by making atleast a few helicopters. Don't know if there are any major limitations though

But I have to ask, and I get it if you don't like it. But, if I do succeed in making a good helicopter Set. Would you mind if I base its balancing on AV8? The 1/1 fly speed and overall balance of helicopters in your set. So its more of a subliment. I'd be making it for my own use primarly and i'd be lying if I wasn't going to use it with AV8 anyway.

Granted I'm far off from actually making anything. It's something to think about.

Everytime I use the automatic update from online content, OTTD downloads av8 2.0 and 1.81, but I only want the already installed 2.21 (or any newer if available), so I need to remove them manually... everytime.

Is it a bug in bananas or those downloads are still there for some other reason?

I have no idea, but if you stopped manually deleting them it would stop redownloading them.

Of course you can.

i believe 1.81 is a dependency for some addon grf, which should probably be removed.

can it be, that the downloader downloads older GRFs that are used in old savegames ? got the same problem..

No, you savegames don't influence that. But every author who uploads stuff to bananas can define dependencies. That is useful for e.g. an AI or GS author to set as dependency the libraries required by the script. Or an Add-on NewGRF which amends another NewGRF via action13. Or a scenario with NewGRFs which sets the required NewGRFs as dependency. The dependencies for the things downloaded via online content are iirc checked on each use of the online content at the same time updates for each entry you have is checked for.

And there surely are a few add-on NewGRFs to av8 and probably also scenarios which use one version or another of it.

Does anybody have a link to av8 2.22 GRF to download? The bananas seems to only have version 2.21.

2.21 is the latest version. I don't remember why it's 2.21 and not just 2.2.
