Belarus has been banned from competing in Eurovision 2021, after twice submitting songs that were deemed unsuitable in terms of lyrics.

Didn't expect them to get banned, but twice did they submit songs deemed by the organisers as having political subtext around the treatment of demonstrators by President Alexander Lukashenko, whose rise to president is quite a disputed subject by Belarusians, as well as internationally with many countries not officially recognising the result of the election that led to his installment in 2020.
