If God had wanted every peasant the read the Holy Book she'd have included instructions on how to build a printing press in it.

My printer is about 7 months old, rarely works. This diagram generally explains why.Pilot wrote:My printer works perfectly That being said, it is less than a year oldNathanxbox20 wrote:Why do printers never work?

Re: The Thread Of Randomness
I've rarely had a printer thats less then 2 years old give me problems so long as I have the correct driver installed. Only thing that sucks is I don't have the money for a printer right now at a time I could use one for printing out forms and stuff.

Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Yay. eBay.
In my first major issue since i started using eBay many years ago. Seller sent me the wrong item accidentally, instead of allowing me to return it for a refund, they suggested (or rather insisted) i "sell it on".
Waiting for eBay to help me, hopefully they can tell the seller the ridiculousness of their idea, if not i'll be trying to get PayPal to reverse the payment for me.

I can't decide if "you need cyan ink for a black and white document" is relevant to my old inkjet or my life. Or both.
Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Black and white printers for the win! They may be boring, but they get the job done! (Kinda sounds like my life actually )Kalen wrote:I can't decide if "you need cyan ink for a black and white document" is relevant to my old inkjet or my life. Or both.

Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Also, I looked it up. Most (modern) color printers ask for cyan and yellow, when they specifically require color ink in odd circumstances. It's usually so they can print the watermark correctly, apparently. It basically says what printer printed that sheet of paper. I assume so if you decide to send a letter to Theresa May about exactly why she's awful and threaten excessive force to remove her, the police can look up the letter and identify watermarks.

That feeling when you find out late a former collegue has died 1 year after his well-deserved retirement.
Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Quick Question for you folks. Would 'that that' be grammatically correct? For example, I've just typed the following sentence "Can you confirm that that amendment still stands...", and I'm just wondering if that's actually proper English or not.

Re: The Thread Of Randomness
Yes, it is possible for a sentence to contain 'that that' and be entirely correct.
Re: The Thread Of Randomness
That that is, is. That that is not, is not. Is that it? It is.Pilot wrote:Quick Question for you folks. Would 'that that' be grammatically correct? Or for that matter, this gramatically correct sentence:
James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher.
It's more easily broken down to:
James, while John had had "had", had had "had had"; "had had" had had a better effect on the teacher.
It refers to two students, James and John, required by an English test to describe a man who had suffered from a cold in the past. John writes "The man had a cold," which the teacher marks incorrect, while James writes the correct "The man had had a cold." Since James' answer was right, it had had a better effect on the teacher.

Re: The Thread Of Randomness
I mostly love things like the following.
Emphasise each word sequentialy as you repeat it (start with I, then next time you repeat it, emphasis 'never' and so on) - the meaning of the sentence changes entirely with each emphasised word.
"I never said she stole my money"
I never said she stole my money - Someone else blabbed, it wasn't me.
I never said she stole my money - I never said it.
I never said she stole my money - I only implied it.
I never said she stole my money - I said someone did, not her though.
I never said she stole my money - She borrowed the money, and didn't steal it.
I never said she stole my money - I said she stole someone money, it wasn't mine.
I never said she stole my money - I didn't say anything about her taking money, but the secret papers about world domination are missing from my manbag.

Believe no one whom'st'd've said otherwise.Pilot wrote:Quick Question for you folks. Would 'that that' be grammatically correct? Re: The Thread Of Randomness
I'm pretty positive it's correct grammar, although whether it's clean grammar is another question entirely. Most people would either omit one of the words, or replace it with "the", since it sounds less jarring. So: "...confirm that amendment still stands...", or "...confirm that the amendment still stands...". Besides, if that buffalo sentence can be considered grammatically correct, then what's a double set of "that"?
