Help needed to connect to the content server

Hello,

Since the very beginning I played this lovely game. I basically forgot about it, but I am now with a leukemia type cancer in quarantaine for many more weeks/months. So time to catch up again! I managed to install all, except... I cant access the online material/content server. Every time I click on it in the game it simply sais: "could not connect to the content server". I tried all I can (I am not a big computer nerd tho) so it would be nice if someone could help me how to reach that content? Maps, trains, trams... I am dying to have the most up to date versions. So basically, please help me :)

What version of OpenTTD are you playing, and what OS are you using?

I play on:
Windows 11 Pro Education

And I am playing now:
OpenTTD 13.4

You need more specifications? Do I need to update something?

Thanks!

it could be some router/firewall blocking some ports

It probably is, but the diagnostics available in-game are rather poor.

@Anoebis, can you check if you can access https://bananas.openttd.org/ in your web browser?

If you're trying to run this from within your school's network, it's likely that their firewall is blocking access to the ports that the game uses to connect to the content servers.

I can go on the bananas website, yes.
Any idea how to put off such a firewall? its a laptop from my work (Im a teacher) but there is no connection with a school server here for sure. It makes sense it blocks external intrusions indeed...

Then my next guess will be that the IT department has applied a Windows group policy that prohibits you from connecting. Your Windows account probably doesn't have permission to change those, you would need to talk to your IT administrator to modify them.

OpenTTD is a great learning tool that teachers should be evaluating and sharing with their students. ;) At least, that's what I'd tell them! :D
