Christmas tree

A little bit of festive eye candy, and also my first meagre attempt at doing some pixel art. The Christmas tree replaces the statue of company owner and has its own custom text in the local authority window. Unfortunately it still says statue in the query land block window; this text string appears to be shared with the other statue, so I can't change one without changing both.

The grf includes two Christmas tree variants and uses a single parameter with the following values:

0 - static multicolour decorations (default, shown in screenie below)
1 - flashing red and yellow lights

I like this better than the statue, for sure.

/Me downloads the new grf file

Now maybe I'll actually build one of these, since I never build a statue. The statues just seemed so pointless.

Perhapse a post for the suggestions forum, but, having a bulding that gets bigger (or taller) as your company is worth more would be awesome.

I agree with Weirdy plus I would change it this way, if possible change graphics depending ot month, so November-January it will show Christmas tree with lights and flashing other tme just pure christmas tree

Would be nice if it changes during the different seasons: In May a Maypole like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maypole

Or a big jack o lantern in the autm...

Personally, I like just the idea of having lights only in the holiday season, and as a regular tree the rest of the year. That way, it's a bit less localized, and will fit more vehicle/building sets.

You could have it change to that statue in St. Pancras International on Valentine's Day!

The problem with that, is that I for one, when not building, run the game at full speed (What is it, 8x normal speed or something like that). Feb. 14 would zip by in a fraction of a second.

For most, I suspect, who don't play this way, there would be no problem though.

but one day seems too short though...

Come on guys! Get with the Christmas spirit.

As in so many cities and towns around the world, on the day after Halloween, you put up the town's Christmas decorations, including the biggest darn tree you can scam out of some poor farmer, which you then decorate with enough lights to draw energy sufficient to power a small nation, all to suck unsuspecting consumers into spending their savings and maxing out their credit cards in the stores in your town. And when those consumers are tapped out and in hock up to their eyeballs, you take down the decorations until next year and pretend that it never happened while the bankers laugh merrily all the way to the ... erm ... bank.

Merry Christmas to all and thank you PaulC for the wonderful gift. :D

if you are a good coder, what about makeing it so that different "objects" appear in different parts of the year with different hollidays?

examples:
x-mas three in desember and january
easter-rabbit-statue (or something) in feb-mars-april
a flag of the the current language settings (ie: norweegian flag if language is norweegian) from may to september, as most national days is in the summer months
a halloween-pumpkin in october and november

You could have it change to a statue of orudge on April Fool's Day!

If anybody is looking for Wally he left the country.

And catch fire with fireworks overhead on November 5th :)

Hi all! I've downloaded this little gem and replaced the statue. I can't get the lights to flash though. I've tried xmas=1 and christmastree=1 in my TTDpatch.cfg but the lights won't blink. I'm running TTD Patch 2.6 alpha 0 r1790 and it's on XP.

Thanks!

You have to put the parameter into your newgrf.cfg, not ttdpatch.cfg.

try inserting newgrf\xmas.grf 1 or newgrf\xmas.grf 0 (and use a space instead of the "=")

Have a Merry Christmas. :D

This thread was recently linked from another, and I'm sure the original poster wouldn't mind the compliment even this late. On the other hand, posting just to point out that a thread has been "dug" is pointless, spammy and backseat moderating.
