cargo tram set

this set will be an imaginary set to fill the gap in TTD, cargo trams.
trams that should be implemented are:
coal
mail
goods
food

I think that this would be an ideal replacement for that non profit train or insufficint and lost truck.
post ideas or whatever

Yes i think it would be cool..

I remember seeing here in the forums a cargo tram from a WW factory in German, if I'm not mistaken, so they do exist and could be a lot of fun :D

Pictures of the CarGoTram in Dresden could be found here.

More infos on wikipedia.

I'll see them nearly every day ;)

If you mention Britain in this at any point i reserve the right to kick you.

After recent thoughts. I retract this. Good luck with the set m3henry.

Stop being so hostile, Weirdy. Your recent posts are bordering on troll. m3henry has already stated this is imaginary, so it can be in any country he wants.

At the risk of sounding like I am putting a dampener on this, how do you make it compatable with other sets or do you intend to add passenger trams too?

coal transported by trams? Sounds rather... unrealistic...

Thats what i thought, i know he said it would be an imaginary set, but once you rule out all the items like coal and oil, food ect that sounds poposterous to transport by tram you've really limited your choices to what you can refit the tram to - so at the end of the day you might as well just stick with lorries and trains.

a-hem... ;)

Translated wrote: In different cities of the Ruhrgebiet have cargo trams been used to transport coal or other bulk cargo, especially during 2nd world war. Examples are the Herkulesbahn, the Hagen Tram, the Wahn Tram and the Rhein-Sieg transport company mbH. The transport of goods on simple box wagons probably has been performed on most of the tramways in the past.
Especially many trams in germany were initially horsecars and have been used for transporting goods (amongst passengers, of course).

The GermanTramSet will contain the CarGo Tram from Dresden.
Other and especially older vehicles are preferable, but there ist still a hole of technical data and images.

Well, it is not ;)
There have been many coal trams in the early days, when trams were cheaper than road vehicles. There are several ways of transporting coal with a tram.
- In a motorized tram car which has a special function to carry coal. See here.
- In normal coal cars, pulled by a tram locomotive (steam, electric, you call it...)

The same applies for other cargoes, like grain, iron ore, oil, etcetera...

What you picture Bastiaan looks to be more like a method to distribute coal to individual houses for fires for heating and cooking. That sort of vehicle would struggle to cope with the large scale transport required in TTD, just my 2p ;)

I hope flamewar stopped HERE!
We should all help m3henry start his nice project by providing data like previous posts.

Have I got news for you then! The tram company in The Hague, HTM, took care of the final part of coal transport from Den Haag HS to the coal-powered plant a bit more downtown. They used "rail tractors" for this transport.

Furthermore: inter-local tram lines used to carry goods with them too.

It sounds strange to transport oil or food, but many piece and bulk cargoes can be transported with trams. I think any non liquid non hazard non express cargo can be transported with trams.

The discussion seen here established only because of that somewhat artificial separation between "trains" and "trams" in TTDPatch. Even more severe, trams in TTDPatch are dealt with like "trucks" but not trains.

Maybe a better concept would have been to allow "street running" for trains in general[*], which would have been included (passenger) trams automatically. Historically, that would have made much more sense and rendered this discussion useless.

[*] I know that would have been sort of impossible, code-wise.

Well disableing the collision detection or make it better would allow it, but this discussion we had already. (I posted long ago a screenshot of rail vehicles on roads)

Yes, I remembered but didn´t find your post in a hurry. Nevertheless, I found a couple of other "freight trams" threads. 8)

You mean m3henry didn't use the search function? Hmm, I'll have to take it up with Owen how we deal with that  .
