With regards to going off-topic within the OT forum: I think moderators could perhaps allow a bit more freedom with regards to this, in threads that aren't necessarily so 'serious' or 'official'/long (eg, things like the word games, or perhaps threads like political threads) - in other words, in perhaps lighter-hearted threads like the "Tara G's tips" thread has become. Generally, I let moderators use their own judgement on issues like this - which, as Aegir said - isn't always easy. Some moderators are maybe harder than others on certain subjects, but everybody's different. If you have a query about something, then you should feel free to contact a moderator politely, and they should explain to you why they did what they did. If you contact them shouting and screaming, or generally being rude, don't necessarily expect a polite or favourable response.
I think our moderators do a pretty good job. Long may it stay that way.

I'd still like to be a moderator, but not a global, definately. Although, I know and don't honestly care that I'll never be one.

Unless you stop being a bit too rude or ignorant (or should I say childish) (as in: You know you're not being funny with your PBIMTTD? stuff, yet you still keep doing it ) you are at times, I too, doubt you'll ever become one.

I just came up with this ehm... thought..

If this is the off-topic forum, the only correct way of staying on-topic is to go off-topic, because it would be off-topic not to go off-topic if you see what I mean. Thus for going off-topic and so staying on-topic there should be the right thing to do. But if it means that staying on-topic is actually going off-topic, then this should be allowed aswell, because it would eventually be on-topic in the off-topic thread, which makes it dubious again, because its the off-topic forum is there to go off-topic and not to stay on-topic. This is all very confusing... it seems that the only correct way is NOT to post in the off-topic section anymore to avoid staying on-topic which results in going off-topic which is a violation of the rules. Because you should stay on-topic by going off-topic, which then again......yes it's the off-topic forum, but I don't think topics are made to go off-topic

a) Owen needs one
b) Owen thinks I would be a good one
so, I probably will never become a moderator... well, I keep on drawing then

Someone doesn't come into #tycoon very often. Lilman's two biggest running jokes:
1. OTTD HAS NO SOUL(which i respond with:it has a soul, its just an anti-soul)
and 2. PBIMTTD? which afterwards GW usually kicks him or tells him off.

So how about ading an off-off-tpic forum section, wher the dumbest and stupidest off-topics would be discussed, while others could stay away from it... far, far away.Observer wrote:I just came up with this ehm... thought..

Personally i think its time for a members rights to be spelt out. We have all the rules about what we cannot do, but nothing about the protection of our Posts and Topics.
Thus my draft:
1. A members Posts and Topics will stand and cannot be deleted or changed by a Moderator.
2. A warning post must be given before any action is taken.
3. A Moderator may lock a Topic if a rule has been transgressed, but posts will remain for all to read.
It's up to Owen, but i think rules like these would promote transparency and would free up Moderator time.

IMO some posts and/or topics can be moved if their in the wrong forum, or even moved to the spambin if it contains material which needs to be 'removed' ASAP (such as porn).Rollo wrote:1. A members Posts and Topics will stand and cannot be deleted, changed or moved by a Moderator.
If a moderator takes an action which can be undone (locking, moving) it's good to do that action immediately, and then post why. We don't want endless discussions in every locked topic, do we? And if it's clear everybody disagrees, it can always be undone.2. A warning post must be given before any action is taken.
If it doesn't contain any material which needs removal, it's useless to move it into the spambin, IMO. But some post may contain content which needs to be removed. (such as ppl insulting other ppl)3. A Moderator may lock a Topic if a rule has been transgressed, but posts will remain for all to read.
just my opinion...

As long as moderators are open to discussion about their actions, I don't think we need specific member rights...
EDIT: to Rollo: no problem, you can't think of everything, I probably forgot some things too

Just make it that your rules apply only if none of the other rules is brokenRollo wrote:Hi Purno
Yes on reflection, i agree a Moderator moving Topics and Posts to correct Forum is ok. Will edit my draft post.
Also i did not think of posts containing insulting words or pornograpic pics. Need to consider this.
