Silverx50's Workshop

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
So somewhere last year during the drawing of Utrecht CS I also drew "het Stadskantoor" I never got around to finishing it.
it's still not finished but was playing around with the staircase that I've now redrawn. and I'm playing around with a 6 tile version of the station canopy.
here is what I drew last year: The feedback I got was that the building was making the station tile look to small and to try it with the larger structure.
So that's what I've done. Here you'll see the new staircase and the building over a 4 tile canopy.
also the 6 tile canopy is in this shot. my only concern now is that an object of that size leads to a loss of at least two tracks.
also drew up the jaarbeurs gebouw (Beatrix gebouw) well that's it for this weekend I think.
cheers.

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
Wow! They look good, and the 2nd one is way better. It looks much more realistic, well done!
What do you mean with the loss of two tracks? Don't they fit anymore?
About the Beatrixgebouw; on the front side there are some windows that don't have the orange blinds, as you can see in the picture (which I found on the internet ). Maybe you can edit the drawing a bit (which will make more clear what the front side is).

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
Those look really good!Zwolle Canopies
I do have some remarks regarding the ones that should be closest to the real thing.
I believe that in one of the 2-tile versions you try to emulate the yellow see-thru glass: Sadly it is not possible to get yellow see-thru (or any other color see-thru for that matter)..... I would advise to just draw an arch-line so that the shape of it is visible, thats the closest we could get to the real thing (in 2-track)...
Regarding the 3-track one, There I am also missing that arch-line for the yellow see-thru glass. In the above picture I also comment on the arch line that is in the 3-tile version, but not in the 2-tile version. I believe it would be nice if that arch-line is also in the 2-tile version.
I think this way the canopies are as close to the real thing as is possible in OpenTTD.
HOLY CRAP, THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Utrecht CS with Stadskantoor
I understand the problem though with this new design (if the Stadskantoor part is an object, not a station) and with the loss of tracks.
Ill try to explain (and I hope I am correct )
Maybe loss of tracks is not the right way of naming it Its more space replaced by object tiles that could/should have been used by tracks.
The canopy-part where the Stadskantoor building is over is the part where the busstops are next to, so in the "old" design that would not have been a problem, as you just place this next to the station/tracked canopies.
However, with the new design the canopy where the Stadkantoor is over, is made two tiles wider (which does indeed look way way way better!!).
Those two tiles have in reallife tracks running there.
But when you code this structure as an object you cannot have those two tracks (ergo they are "lost"/unusable for tracks).
There is a solution though and that is to code it as a station, with a part non-track (where the stadskantoor building is) and a part tracked, just like what is being done with Rotterdam CS station.
But, that would also mean that you need to draw a version for the other track-direction...... And I dont know if you are willing/able to do that....
Also, for that direction, you wont be able to see the staircase (it will probably be obstructed from view by the Stadskantoor building and the canopy), which just wastes space...
So if you may find it interesting to have it as a station-building I would advise to cut it up in two modules, one module with just the staircase and a module that has the Stadskantoor and canopy...
Something to think about maybe....

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
Okay, well I got it now. I think cutting up would be a solution indeed. Apart from the train tracks, I think the same problem occurs for the bus station (which is under the hall), isn't it?Quast65 wrote:Maybe loss of tracks is not the right way of naming it Its more space replaced by object tiles that could/should have been used by tracks.

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
Yes, but that can partly be solved by using overlapping tiles (if the front canopy where the Stadskantoor is not over, is also coded as a separate segment), not the "cleanest" solution, will glitch like crazy , but an option...sanderNL wrote:I think the same problem occurs for the bus station (which is under the hall), isn't it?
I do think though that that would be a bit too much, I mean trying to mimic reallife is cool, but OpenTTD has its limits

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
Hahaha that's true, but it would be an option
But after all I think the design for Utrecht is just very cool and it couldn't have been done better

thanks man.Quast65 wrote:HOLY CRAP, THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes this was exactly what I meant.Quast65 wrote:Ill try to explain (and I hope I am correct )
I'll have to think about it. In the current version the staircase is already a separate piece, as I wanted to be able to draw the other building that's being built next to stadskantoor as well. and having the staircase be part of the whole, would mean even more wasted squares.Quast65 wrote:Quast65 wrote:Also, for that direction, you wont be able to see the staircase (it will probably be obstructed from view by the Stadskantoor building and the canopy), which just wastes space...

But I've made the changes to the canopies you suggested.
plus a textured version of the station building in 4 views

I have made some changes to the Zwolle buildings (corrected the textures to the OpenTTD Palette and some other changes), how does that look to you?

haha, yes yes.Quast65 wrote:Cool, I guess I have some coding to do...
but first: made changes to the roof, creating more of that flat rectangular part.
filled in the rest and moved the outer edge further and thus extending the back part to make that a bit longer.
only now you lines for the different elevations of the roof no longer match up. but wanted to see what you thought of this.

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
So have returned to Den Haag HS.
starting with the center building and adding some surroundings to get the height right and keep it to scale with the trains a bit.
I'm pretty happy with it, think I'm going to move the two towers inward a bit to make the front a bit less broad I think.
hoping I can get this station finished faster than zwolle and delft, as those two took a very long time. plus till putting some touches on the 6 track version of Utrecht CS.

Re: Silverx50's Workshop
Wanted to show you some coding work in progress, did one of the views of Delft, looks like this:
I think it is best to just replace it with matte glass with some kind of sun-glare.
Woud you be able to draw that? Or maybe we could ask the help of Luxtram... Some of his buildings have that very nice effect on the glass...
Here are the thus far finished graphics of Delft:
To be honest, I am not very happy with using the see-thru glass effect... Only one track is visible and the rest is not very interesting to look at I think it is best to just replace it with matte glass with some kind of sun-glare.

it's the backview for the old Delft station. It is mostly an edited version of the original drawn by THS.
