Someone may want to look at the official TT-Forums Facebook page. Nudey Central lol. I got a notification that it's had two new posts since 2016!
I'm assuming that it's not this group here, since it's the largest group I could find, and I'm also a member of it.

Todays random discovery. There are world championships for... Microsoft Excel!

Makes me realise my knowledge of Excel is actually rudimentary at best

Out of all things to be a champion at, you could choose Microsoft Excel?

As a High School student, our IT classes included Microsoft Office specialist qualifications (incl. Excel, Word, etc.), that effectively acted as the preliminary qualifiers for a similar sort of World Championships.

I was top of the class at my school with a very high score, and very nearly ended up qualifying for them, to the point I was pulled aside by my IT teacher, the head of IT and my head of year to explain how it all worked. Sadly I got pipped very late by someone else from a different school.

Shame really, as it would have involved a trip to, at that time, LA if I recall correctly, which would have been rather neat as a school student!

Don't ask me how to do any of the stuff it involved again though, I've forgotten most of it, and it would have been for an older form of Office too!

Oh wow, nice work, shame about the pipping at the end though. What an adventure that'd have been for you going to LA for possibly the geekiest reason ever

I learnt Excel (and Word) very basically at high school, on whatever version of Office ran on Windows 98SE machines (i was there between 2000 & 2005, they still had 98SE when i left, as well as an Acorn Archimedes as the main library computer tracking all the books and stuff).
However, since I left school I've basically not touched Excel or Word. I always use OpenOffice alternatives now, whether its for personal use, or my own business use. I have a big assets list to keep track of the consoles (yay buy broken console, fix & resell!) I have in stock that need fixing, selling, or scrapping down to parts. Which... wow that was a mistake, i definitely need to slap together some basic software or even website on local intranet to do it with less fuss. It was a case of "I know how to use Excel (well 'Calc' as OpenOffice calls it), lets just make a mistake and do it on that!"

I do wonder how different Excel is to free alternatives in OpenOffice & LibreOffice, and if knowing it actually counts for anything if applying for jobs that make excessive use of Microsoft Office instead of... saving themselves $$$ and using free versions that do the same thing.

I've used Google Suite for years now, I'd say I am fairly competent with Google Sheets. And that means I know my way around Excel very roughly too. They're light years apart in user friendliness though, Microsoft carries too much legacy functionality.

Hello fellow Tycooners :)

Randomness seems like the ideal location for this post.

I wanted to make an appearance and have some activity on my account because I have not been active on TTD and in the forum for a while due to a lot of things that have happened over the previous few years. For no apparent reason, I just happened to remember this forum, its members, and the TTD game itself. I also seem to have some long-forgotten save games on my flash drive. 5 years since my last screenshot :| In addition, some drawings from my previous thread are still there.

I myself have been busy with family stuff. You know... wife... two kids, 2 years and 2 months old, and a full time job. Nowadays, all the energy goes there, and there isn't much time to just sit back and enjoy the game. Maybe some day in the future, when I am old and gray. But it is fun to see good old fellows still hanging around and doing their thing. 8)

So that said, I just hope everyone is well now and in the future, and I do hope to lurk around again now and then.

Cheers

Hello ISA! I remember your avatar and name, welcome back. The forums are not as lively as they once were, there is also a popular Discord channel these days and now that OpenTTD is available on Steam there are many new players!

Argh, for some reason all my stats for Heardle 1990s/2000s/2010s/Reheardle, Weirdle and Episode have been wiped. I’m not quite sure why, I haven’t cleared cookies or anything like that, so it’s rather sad. Oddly my Framed stats are still there. Wordle and WhereTaken have logins so seem to be fine.

I did some of them this morning and they were there then and all fine…

I was known during high school for "No One Knows Microsoft Excel Better than Me"
But still that was basic. Just some complex functions. Never touched anything about more advanced stuff such as Macros.

And then my interest turned to LaTeX
