Your Last Train Journey?

Post by Redirect Left »

Lets have a thread for discussing our last train journeys, how awesome insanely fun!

Yeah I know, i have insomnia, can't sleep blahdy blah.

Lets keep it in a nice format, to make it easier to read.

Destination: Leeds
From: Huddersfield
Company: First Transpennine Express
Train Class: Class 185
Details: Had a lovely overcrowded 185, about time they fixed overcrowding on those, IMO.

From: Stourbridge Town
To: Preston
TOC: London Midland, Virgin Trains
Details: Had a huge weekend at home with my friends. Stourbridge Town to Smethwick Galton Bridge was fine, then got lucky as I'd made a mad leap for the 1708 LM service thinking I'd missed it, only for it to be a couple of minutes late. I'm such a hero. Then it was the usual Wolves-Preston run on Virgin. The train was brought to a stand north of Stafford due to a door sensor failing. I've never been on a train that's made an emergency stop before - it was quite dramatic. Driver checked all was okay and we got underway about 6 minutes down. Time was made up and I arrived back into Preston as darkness fell.

I saw a lone ATW 153 at Birmingham International last week. Those coming off the plane and expecting the Virgin Intercity Express service to Birmingham New Street must have been disappointed!

First time I'd seen a lone 153 in the West Midlands for a long time.. (bar the Worley 153 of course)

Destination: Stowmarket Sation
From: London Liverpool St.
Company: National Express
Details: Fatality on the line. Yawn. Supposed to be 19:30 - 21:00, ended up being about 22:00. *To make things worse the train was completely full so had to sit in doorway. Nice though as i probably had more fun talking to friends than i would have normally.

EDIT: *also, as it seems the previous train was cancelled all reservations were suspended. how stupid is that? if you pay for a reservation, you can't cancel it can you?

Destination: Totnes
From: Newton Abbot
Company: Crosscountry
Class: 220
Details: Chronic overcrowding. No seats available (even though the train only started at Plymouth), even taking into account it was a friday hardly makes it any better. If the government wants more people on the trains, they need more trains. I stood in the vestibule for ten minutes. Wasn't too bad but the toilet stink was gag-inducing.

Edited first post with the class of train, for more interesting reading (by me, anyway, i always like knowing where certain trains operate)

Anyway, i got a train earlier today;

Destination: Manchester Piccadilly
From: Huddersfield
Company: First Transpennine Express
Train Class: Class 185
Details: A surprisingly undercrowded train, all things considering, was still a bit of standing, but not as bad as usual, although being fair, it was about 09:00...

Destination: Karlberg
From: Stockholm Central
Company: Stockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) in co-operation with Stockholmståg
Train Class: SL X60
Details: Insanely snowy, the train was therefore 45 minutes late. Luckily, the train before this was running the same route, an hour late. Therefore, basically alone in the train!!

Oh, wait. I just realised that post was a lie. That was my last UK train journey. My last train journey anywhere (assuming you don't count the local light rail service) was:

From: Hengelo Central Station
To: Schiphol Station
TOC: NS
Details: It was bloody early in the morning, I had been at WineConf, and had to get my flight back to the US. I watched The Office and an episode or two of Buffy. Fun times!

Bloody lucky really considering there was a fatality at Bramley this morning and everything that should go the Bradford Interchange way was being diverted along the Huddersfield route! Bloody chaos, made my job damn hectic!
