If it does then they are not settable by any parameter that I know of. That would make the short answer: No. Of course that may change in a future release at PikkaBird's discretion.
In fact they do have variable running cost.
Stopped train cost less maintenance than a moving train, check yourself

You are correct. That behavior would also qualify as a definition of variable running costs.

I may try that, since you can still buy very elderly diesels and even steam locomotives today.

True, but for the most part its usually for tourisst attractions or Railfan Excursions :3
There was a Excursion a few years back that CP Rail was doing, I don't know the name of it but they where going to run one of their old steam engines down the line through my city , but I missed it cause i was upset my friend was moving T^T

Hey, after doing some reasearch, I think this set need some of those huge tankers known as Whale belly Tankers, which can Hold Over 200,000 Liters of stuff, but those where more of a experimental type, only the 50K Gallon's (189,271 Liters) where put into regular service.

OMFG! I found something on the F40PH!

Turns out it should have HEP from Seperate Generator, not HEP from Traction Motors like in the NARS 2 set

From Wikipedia

"To support passenger service, the F40PH is equipped with a secondary electrical generator known as the head end generator. The HEP unit generates three-phase AC power at 480 v AC 750 A or about 500 kW to provide power to the cars for lighting, heating, and air conditioning. Because head end power must be delivered to the rest of the trainset at a constant frequency, the prime mover in these locomotives must turn at a constant high speed (900 rpm) while delivering head end power (even if the locomotive is standing still). Power to the traction motors is controlled by varying the field excitation of the main (traction) generator.

Later versions of the F40PH have a second small diesel engine at the rear of the locomotive driving the head end power generator. In these versions the prime mover can vary its speed depending on the amount of tractive effort needed. These locomotives can be identified by a small secondary diesel exhaust at the rear end of the locomotive, in addition to their quiet idle. The MPI version of the F40PH was built by Morrison-Knudsen."

'HEP from traction system' means the HEP generator unit is run right off the prime mover, which is the case with the F40PH as originally delivered (and is the reason they're so famously loud). 'Seperate generator' implies an auxiliary motor is used to run the HEP generator instead, which some of the later knockoff or rebuild F40s like the F40PH-2C and -3C have, but not the original that's in NARS2.

Wednesday night is bug fixing night... :o

Fixed so far:
*Mail car showing wrong sprite in buy menu in OTTD after 2000
*Trainmaster, SD45 and Genesis showing wrong sprite in buy menu in OTTD
*SD45 not being recoloured with passengers as player 2

Any bugs I've missed? I'm thinking of trying to put in an "autogearing" feature, but that'll be a fair bit of work...

Autoregearing as, the trains will try and match the old trains gearing the close it can? That would be nice, another thing, this set needs whale belly tankers.

Autogearing as in instead of using fake cargo for manual refitting, the locomotives will have their gear ratio adjusted automatically by the makeup of the train (eg, passenger vs freight, length/weight vs HP, etc). It would be a third parameter option along with no regearing and manual regearing.

I JUST RELISED SOMETHING THIS SET NEEDS! A Amtrak livery parameter, though, over time have it so that the amtrak locoschange the scemes as time goes on, Im playing with the old NARS 1 set and having the comp colours white and red makes the FP9 look like a Amtrak Train ;3

Hi Pikka,

I just tried to find a readme for NARS2 when I tried to activate it ingame, the file downloaded from bananas (the tar) didn't have any documentation or readme nor does it contain even a link to your website which could or rather does act as a readme. It would be nice, if you could include in future releases of your NewGRFs a readme which lists at least explicitly a link to your corresponding website, so that a user of your NewGRFs doesn't need to search either forums or google for a manual, but does get a pointer to the documentation directly with what s/he downloads.

Preferrably, from my point, though, would be a readme included which covers what is found on your website concerning the single newgrf :-)
Either way, your website IS a good manual.

Way back on page 5 of this thread I posted a text file listing the parameters for this set so that users could have them offline as opposed to them only being available online. I have since added to that file a short note about the relationship between loading orders and the regearing options. Based on planetmakers suggestion above I will now add the URL to Pikkabird's NARS v2.0 wiki to that text file and repost it here. Pikkabird was kind enough to give me permission to post the file the first time so I doubt there will be any objections this time. If you find any mistakes in the file please let me know. If you want to include this file in any current or future release of the set feel free to do so.

Hehe, thanks. That's actually right and I totally missed that. But I still hold my point that a short readme would be nice :-) possibly including exactly that what NiteOwl posted here above.

2.03 is up (2,03 on bananas, oops). It has the bug fixes but I decided the autogearing was more trouble than it's worth.

I've still half a mind to make no-regearing the default setting.

Do you mean to take it out? Or just make it so that yOu have to regear the trains before they can be sent out?
