Quark, please bear in mind that you cannot distribute files licensed like that with OpenTTD. OpenTTD is distributed under the Gnu GPL, which allows commercial distribution. Since that license you pasted imposes additional limits on what can be done with the software, it is not compatible.

Read this for more information:

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.htm ... Compatible

(Official GPL FAQ, anchored to 'What does it mean to say that two licenses are "compatible"?')

If you are using the tempsnow.grf from the MiniIN for your Snow In Temperate patch, please be aware that this is licenced directly from M. Blunck, with his permission (for MiniIN only). If you want to use it, you will need the artist's permission, so please contact M. Blunck.

This was great, mainly because tar(archives) is much cooler than grf(archives) I know tar is supported in the 32bpp branch, but this is cooler.

*Edited the reply and hope it makes more sense now.

It still doesn't make sense. The .dats simply aren't .tars.

They aren't even tars with prepended information, as strings would find readable information in that case.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

What is farm9.tar if it isn't a grf?(packed in a tar archive) I even have an entry for it in openttd.grf in both the svn folder for 32bpp branch and for this version.
[newgrf]
farm9.tar

*edit It works like a grf, looks like a grf, but unfortunately I don't know where I got it from, nor do I know if I'm allowed to upload it here.

*edit2 Egladil is the owner(at least in linux ownership terms, I don't about if it was copyrighted) of the files inside this tar.

Well, what happens when you "tar -xf farm9.tar"?

Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that newgrf.dat is none of:
.7z
.ace
.arj
.bz2
.cab
.grf
.gz
.jar
.lzh
.rar
.tar
.zip
.Z

DaleStan wrote:halve the space available for type 08 GRM reservations
Actually, I lied there. In trunk and most branches (including MiniIN), type 08 GRM allocates sprites in the 5.5k .. 16k range, approximately, which is 10.5k available space. The thing that is being halved is the 16k ceiling, so the actual available space is reduced by more than 75%, to 2.5k. (5.5k .. 8k)

Jesus, I'd been working on my own build, using very similar patches, and a few of my own, but if this is the hostility that is given as soon as a new build is posted, then I really dont want to post mine.

Allow me to be one of the few so say well done and thank you.
I don't understand how the MiniIN openttd.exe is over 1MB and this one is under 1MB!

Face customisation is another very welcome addition.

willisterman don't be too disheartened, yes care needs to be taken not to infringe copyrights, but if people don't put their foot out to bring us these experimental/combination releases, development to me would be stifled.

It's something global society needs to change, because nobody remembers you for the good things you do/say, only for the bad.

Its just constructive criticism. Another form of helping. All the things here are not meant to break the guys spirit, it are just rules and pointers you should follow and they are just simply pointing. And if you can't handle that, no then you shouldn't post yours.

[dbsetxlw.grf]
[newshipsw.grf]
[newstatsw.grf]

The above three .grf files are copyrighted by me and may not be distributed without their readme files which contains appropriate copyright notices.

So, please remove them from your "pack" or include their appropriate copyright notices, or better, don´t remove the readme files because they contain valuable information for people who are able to read (" i never see any license for newgrf files").

I strongly suspect executable packing, but all I know for sure is that PEiD reports that the attached executable is built with MSVC 6 and has an overlay.

What heppers said about copyright violation. Do your research and stay within your rights.
Also, when the devs say "a lot of work", like for "raising the sprite limit", believe them, and understand *why* it is a lot of work to change before actually making the change. They have this habit of knowing what they're talking about.

Quark: Unless I greatly miss the mark, "distributed without their readme files" includes "The readme files are packed into the .dat where they cannot be read" and "The readme files are only available online".

Compiles with MSVC6? That's strange... support was dropped for that in trunk months ago...
