That is just awesome. I would usually complain that i can't tell the difference between the industry forest and the normal tree's...but then i realised that its realistic..!

Couldn't help but put my fingers on yet another "side track"! :roll: As I use the snowline.grf, (temperate climate), for the sake of some variety - and realism - I haven't really enjoyed it due to the fact that trees and buildings doesn't change with the climate.

So, I figured I might as well try to at least let my mountains look like mountains, and I kind of like the result. The first image shows iron ore minings on top of a mountain;

...and below is a mountain town;

I'm aware that there are things that can be improved, but I've tried to make the transition, (?), from grass to stone as gentle as possible. The same goes for railroads which would be a difficult part as tracks and stuff kind of blends in too well with the mountains grey appearance.

Again, not completely done with it though, but all "snowy" parts such as terrain tiles, railroads and roads, (including tunnels), have been transformed to mountain parts. If anyone is interested in this the good news is that it's not that much work left to be done.

I imagine this will go into the INFRA-Landscape set along with the trees, and I still have the stages to do. That was what I intended to do today before my lack of focus took the better out of me - once again! :P

Oh well, here are a couple of other shots;

Oh my! That is impressive. However, got a few bits of criticism for it (:P).

First are the tracks, I think they should have a bit more grass/dirt around them and the ballast intact.

Seccondly, the transition from grassy areas to the rocky mountaineous areas are a bit too much.

Third, I think it would look better if there were more traces of grass/dirt visible on the rocky/mountain tiles. The trees would look a little less out of place sticking out of them aswell :).

Apart from that, AWESOME concept! I really like it!

Yes, I have to admit that you're both right. Looking at these screens again makes it more obvious. :roll:

I used the in-game stone texture and removed all "squares" from them and basically worked from that. However, I wonder if I should find another stone/rock texture instead?! :?

As for the transtition, (?), I used grass on the first tile where the "actual" snowline begins. As can tell I've used the arctic texture on those first tiles which apparently works better with snow. I assume grass teture all the way will do better.

As for grass and trees. Well, I don't think it's a very good idea to mix grass and rocks as it's not possible to determine where trees will go, so it won't result in trees being surrounded with grass in a realistic way. A better idea would be to "add" some grass to the trees as that won't affect the ground when below the "snowline". But I could be wrong!

Oh well, none of this will be taken care of tonight though! I'm tired and need some sleep! :P

Cya tomorrow!

The dirt and grass under the tree itself, as part of it's sprite would probably work quite well. I was almost thinking that you could fake some small bushes and scrub as part of the tree, but that would probably look odd on slopes.

So that solves that issue regarding grass/dirt on the rocks, which methinks would just leave the issue of the transitions from grass to rocks. I have an idea as to how to draw it, I might cook up an example for you in a moment.

I think the squares should be kept, it's makes it easier to see the contour of the land, but the squares are way too obvious on the original rocky sprite in TTD itself, perhaps a compromise between the two needs to be investigated.

This should look quite nice when the glitches are ironed out! Quite an imagination you have, SAC!

Okay, sorry to double post, but I cooked up a transition based on the same pattern as the snow transition sprites, but for the temperate grass and the rocky tile.

This was what I had in mind for the transition from grass to rocky:

I know I wrote "both", and I was tired when I wrote it, but I can swear there were two replies here I answered! :shock:

Anyway, yes Aegir! I figure using the grass all the way up to the snowline would be the best!

However, I shall find a new rock/stone texture and we'll see where this lands! :P

I think it was ISA, I'm guessing he deleted his post. Dunno why.

Do you only sleep 4/5 hours or something? Wasn't expecting you to reply for atleast another few hours!

Well, it may seem so! They are renovating the apartment above mine so at 8 am in the morning it's better to get up! :-) Besides, I like late nights! 8)

Very impressive :!:

Tho, it'd be a bit strange to see the rocks growing back when you have bulldozed a tile. :P

In fact, I had that in mind and have tested it, but it doesn't look good - especially as it's not possible to add a second selection of trees, (snow covered ones), or even allow for a tree level, (something that would have been cool if using snow as well).

Try Michael Blunck's Alpine climate.

Try Michael Blunck's Alpine climate.
That changes the sub-arctic climate though, not temperate.

I think this is brilliant, it's doing something new and interesting with the already existing temperate climate :).

I know, but it's not problem to transfer scenario to other climate. :wink:
