Is that station in the TTD Pallette? I ask because it looks 32bpp

Misprint report.

Post by Axlrose »

I am not sure if the U.S. train set has a separate ~bug~ report.

The Class F 'Berkshire' has a top speed of 78 miles per hour according to the purchase panel. A log car has a maximum speed of 55 miles per hour. If I am not mistaken, empty rolling stock will travel 20 miles per hour faster than their maximum speed. Thus the 'Berkshire' should return empty to a station at 75 miles per hour. In the game, the maximum speed is 70 miles per hour.

Unless I am mistaken for the extra speed on empty rolling stocks or some other aspect in game.

Side note: nice watching the engine pull ten log cars loaded down (weight multiplier of five) and not breaking a sweat...

You control how much faster empty wagons travel.

You need to specify, in the ttdpatch.cfg :

Code: Select all

// `wagonspeedlimits' (-YL) enables speed limits for train wagons.
wagonspeedlimits 20
Now that value is in km/h and 20 is the default; if you want 20 mph specify 32 (km/h).

What would be good is if grf creators could specify loaded/unloaded speeds for each wagon, as IRL there are wagons which can go much faster when unloaded, and many where the load makes no difference.

It may be tmwftlb though.

Edit and OT: Oh hey I'm a Director, when did that happen? :D

'we' only have control over the one speed setting; but the engine will put a limit on the 'empty' speed anyway. On the other hand, trains accelerate much faster, when empty; and I don't know of any company, that runs trains faster when empty.

Off the top of my head, I know of at least one class of British goods van (circa 1970s) which had a higher speed limit when unloaded, or partially loaded, than when fully loaded. And, pre-1970s, a lot of wagons in the UK were unbraked. Thus the maximum allowable speed of the train was determined by being able to stop for signals; heavier trains necessarily had to go slower.

There's also the case of cattle wagons, nuclear flask wagons, etc, where a slow speed when loaded is mandated by the cargo, rather than the design of the wagon. So they can go a lot faster when not loaded.

Sorry man, but the animation looks wrong... :/ Look at my animation of the berkshire to see what I mean. The side rods don't bend, they stay straight. If you want, I'll do it.

Charlie, those stations look sweet!

If you want to alter the animated files to improve them, I don't see a problem with that.

I like the colouring, but I think it's to hard to judge it at this point. Nice work though!

Ah, I see what you mean. Since I didn't have a reference for the actual model's motion, I didn't know.
But it's no problem, there were still some details to be changed; and I have the developing file for these, so I'll fix that issue soon

Weekend updates:
South Station still needs texture work, especially on the windows, and I'm starting on the platforms.Boston & Providence Station is developing rather nicely for something that started last night at midnight. Over the Thanksgiving holliday (My office has through Monday off :D ) I hopefully should be able to get both stations finished.

Answering George below:
I am trying to simplify the lighting setup to make the images generated much closer to TTD, simplier shadows/much better highlights on edges, and also manually going in and recoloring them. Each time I try it's been getting a little closer, the colors are spot on now and translate beautifully when I index them to the TTD pallette, so it's only a matter of time before I get it just right.

They are very nice, but do not fit the TTD world well. Could they be sharpen?

Thanksgiving update on The B&P terminal. Needs lighting / texture work like South Station; work on the tower, few roof details, and the platform shed.

Are there any plans afoot to make the USroadset more compatible with the newbridges.grf and PikkaBird's pb_viaduct.grf? They all "work" together when put in the right order, but keeping the road markings consistent across bridges would be really sweet.

P.S. It's nice to see more steamers getting animated. The Berkshire has been a favourite of mine purely because it looks so cool.
