Jim's Archives

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Family;

One of the most enjoyable scenarios that I've made was

"Taming the Swiss". It's origin came from a scenario of
Switzerland that is in Mr. Rudge's Save Game Repository.

I "tweaked" it somewhat and made the cities bigger and added
a terrific 4 lane RR system for dual type trains to run on, namely
regular tracks for industry and Monorails for express trains. I had
a blast with it! Hope you have fun also! :D

Let me know what you think, OK?

Always,
Jim Powers

Taming the Swiss

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

Here is a screenshot of my scenario "Taming the Swiss".

I wrote that you take out the 4 lanes of "Road" and replace
them with railroad tracks. Thus, you have a grand dual RR System.

Enjoy!:D

Oil Heaven

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

After being asked numerous times, I'm placing my
popular scenario "Oil Heaven" here for easy access.

This scenario has many interesting things to offer,
including my fancy HQ. But, mainly it's built for, you guessed it, OIL!
You'll use a lot of ships here as it has islands and a mainland to
sell your commerce. A real wonderful scenario.

Have Fun!

Always,
Jim Powers

Taming the Swiss

Post by Jim Powers »

Mr. Me-Simon;

I indicated that you are to replace the (4-Lane) Roads with Railroad
track. Replace also the "road" tunnels for RR tunnels. I've played this
scenario at least 3 times, and it's one of my favorites. Notice the "roads"
around the edges? Replace them also. I used the monorails on the 1st & 2nd
rails and 3rd rail and 4th rails, I used regular rails. The regular being
for industry and the monorails for express (Passengers, Mail & Goods.) :wink:

It's tricky! But, that's the fun and the challenge of this scenario. Put the passenger/mail RR stations in the cities, in the 4-lane tracks also. The industry is NOT in the 4 lane RRtracks.

If you have any problems, ask me and I'll try to "Make your Day", Sir. :)

the problem is running out of money, or the city beats me to the network first :(
i go to scenario editor, demolish the road ways and save it and go into the game, start building the whole map, and run out of money, is there any other way without resorting to cheating? :P

Taming the Swiss

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Me_Simon;

Yes, there are ways. The first thing to do: build as many large airports
and planes as possible. Then, I usually build the regular tracks going only
from, say Zurich to the next town. After you've generated enough money,
continue from town to town. After you've advanced, and the money starts
coming in pretty good, from both industry and passenger/mail, start
building your monorails. This is your goal! But, until you're ready to "lay"
tracks, let those roads stay where they are. This way the spaces aren't occupied
by the city or any other unwanted objects. I always remove the roads in the editor.
Look at it this way, "Federal funding", not cheating?:wink:

Make sure you select 'save game' (Ctrl+'Load game'), not 'Save scenario'.

Failing that you could try a cht:playerID to switch companies.

Taming the Swiss

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Me_Simon;

I can't believe you're having trouble. I bet I switch 200(?) times a game.
Wow, you are saying that you can't continue with the game, just because
you used the Editor for knocking out roads? If you take out roads only, the
"City Fathers can't keep you from building tracks, Sir, unless you're not
doing "something" right. Follow Mr. Prof. Frink's advice. It has to work,
Old Buddy. Remember ONLY tracks. Also go immediately, (after you've
properly saved the game in Editor,) a place the tracks Pronto. Failure to do
this wil cause you to lose these spaces to junk stuff you don't want. So, only
take out enough roads as you have time to replace with tracks. Here's a screen shot.

Always,
Jim Powers

Jim P's New York City

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

Here is my latest scenario "Jim P's New York City".

One City covers the entire TTD map.
Population 2,070,000 People in this ONEcity!
:D
Of course, THIS EXCEEDS ALL RECORD-BREAKING TTD CITIES.It's historical!

A Subway system runs along the outer edges of this map and
it has spaces marked for the (maximum) 3 large Airports. 8)

I hope you'll enjoy this scenario and I welcome your comments.
Also thanks for all your much needed support and encouragement.

Always,
Jim Powers

Jim P's New York City

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear TT-Forum Family;

I also wanted to include a screenshot to try to show you
the VASTNESS of the Huge city of well over 2,000,000 people!

Notice where the "New York City" Name is. I've circled it way down
in the lower right-hand corner, yet, you still see only buildings. That's
not the end, it keeps on going.

Always, Jim Powers :)

You Waited Too Long

Post by Jim Powers »

Dear Mr. Me_Simon;

"A picture is worth a thousand words." This is a prime example of this.
OK, #1: You waited too long to lay your RR tracks. See how many objects
are in the spaces where the RR tracks go? This simply means that to get
that many things in the way of the tracks, you must have taken out the roads
"years" before you tried to lay the RR tracks. (Bummer!)
Read my last instructions, which says, "place the tracks Pronto. Failure to do
this wil cause you to lose these spaces to junk stuff you don't want. So, only
take out enough roads as you have time to replace with
tracks.
"

Now, of course, the City Fathers want money if you take out their houses, etc.
See, even all the roads have crossed your tracks. This takes a lot of time.
I bet you took out all the "roads" that are meant for future tracks, all at once.

My advice, Sir; start over. Also notice at the end of the of the section
of track, in my screen shot, I made a < out the other side of the Basel RR
station. Thus, the train was able to go north into the station, then, just
after exiting this station, made a "U" turn and came south, back through
the station, and on to the other station RR station, (Zurich). Now, you can
go town to town and make enough money to continue to lay more track
and eventually you can lay all four lanes and be able to operate a super
RR system with 2 different types of trains, and THAT IS FUN!:)

I hope this explains to you why you had this problem. Good Luck, Sir.

Jim Powers

well, this was a one large city scenario which i abandoned after some time. i wanted to test a little electrified railway around the city, but then a farm was created and i created a factory. i wanted more money and started to build a railway line from the factory to one of the city centre's loop track train station. the roads and the houses were all there WAY before i put my tracks there.....this screenshot was taken in the scenario editor, which i pressed demolish but it still wont let me :(
