Scenario Development & Release: ---- Australia in Tropical ---- By SniperDJ
_________________________________________________________INTRODUCTION______________________________
I have chosen to create a scenario of Australia, because I find it a fascinating country. I do not live in Australia, so I have to get all my information from atlases, encyclopedias, google earth and the rest of the World Wide Web.
If somebody can give me accurate information about industrial regions, agricultural, areas with mining activities etc.. It is welcome and feel free to post here or PM me.
Flygon has supplied me a new heightmap, which i am currently working on (it meant i had to start again). you can see the development in the pictures below
________________________________________________The story_____________________________________________
It is january 1st. 1901, Australia becomes a federal parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy, by separating from the the United Kingdom and their monarch Queen Victoria. A brand new country with huge amounts of high value minerals; coal, uranium, iron ore, bauxite, gold, copper, silver, zinc, lead, gas and diamonds. Not all of those metals were yet found or just underestimated. Not only minerals but also extensive agricultural areas were already there, ready to be connected to industries.
The new Australian government has ordered your transport company, famous from the successes in developing the Trans-Siberian Railway, to do the same here. Are you going to make it, yes or no? You have been given a loan of £200.000 to face deserts of a total from 1,371,000 square kilometres (529,000 sq mi), most tycoons will run away in fear, but do you? Are you prepared to take the challenge?

You can make your own heightmap easily, even easier if you've got Google maps.
Just follow it here.
About your poll :
1 - Yes, thats better.
2 - Depends on GRF.
3 - Just match them to starting date.
4 - Yes, GRF is a must. Just assure that people may grab it easily, or provide the links to GRF's which is absent from Bananas.

Re: [SCN] Centr. & East Australia By:SniperDJ (Update: 4-8-2
I felt the need to register an account and shout my support here. This scenario has me very very interested... probably because I'm Australian.
The choice of climate has me a bit concerned, though. Additionally, the New South Wales and Victoria region seem quite devoid of major towns (also, Albury / Wodonga are a pair of towns on separate sides off the state border, not a single town).
I'd very much like to help, as much as my advice would be heavily Victoria-centric. It would be fantastic to have a decent Australia scenario on a very large map. Even better if we could somehow end up with a very large map (8192*4096 would be great for representing the scale of the country and allow for many of the large regional centres to be represented properly... if the incompatibilities with standard OpenTTD could be ignored
).

Re: [SCN] Centr. & East Australia By:SniperDJ (Update: 4-8-2
I think that this would be amazing! I hope to see a release soon.
I'm pretty sure you're allowed to use the heightmap - it has been released to an open source game, so it can be used by anyone.
Keep up the good work,
Skrye

that is how I think of it as well, unfortunately that is not how copyright works. there are authors who do not give permission to use their material, unless they have given explicit permission, moriarty could be one of them. since I have had problems with copyright before, I am now very cautious.skrye wrote:I think that this would be amazing!
