Because it's a million times simpler to make the endes follow lines on the grid. A direct diagonal and on the grid edges are easy. Making it follow the track exactly sould be much harder. I think it may be possible to achieve something curvier, but it may have problems in junctions and such.

I consider myself somewhat competent in this area of using mods... But I have frustratingly been unable to get this concrete bridge mod to fully work. The flat part of the bridge works fine, but I would much rather have the slope part working as well. When I go into the scenario editor, I enabled both types of bridges but when I start the game I cannot select the sloped concrete bridge. I have tried multiple combinations of the trackst.dat, the brdgconc.dat and the brdgcon1.dat files, nothing seems to get the sloped concrete bridge to work. Any suggestions?

Every time I try to use the slope I get a "Can not find brdgart.dat" error or something of the like. I think the slopes look good as they are.

Sorry for the delay and the inconvenience caused (=apology in BR style :D ). I had to dedicate all my time to a contract with a murderous deadline while my business partner suffered from the flu. Anyway, I'm back with time to spare.

I've edited the first post that contains the files. All should be well now.

I don't think either trackst calls for bridgecon1. I tried both and don't have the slopes.

Well, at least make it more expensive or something.
I think we should add a degree of realism to the new bridges, to provide them with situations where they would be used, and situations where there are better options. Eg: If your bridge is as cheap as a brick bridge, there is no reason to ever use the other bridges.
Actually, as new techniques are developed, such as steel-reinforced concrete, structures such as bridges often become both stronger and cheaper to build with the new technique versus the 'old' way. If this were not so, we would not see so many concrete bridges being built today. (In real life, however, a concrete bridge would not be used to cross a river canyon, and a suspension bridge would not be used to traverse an interstate highway.)

Of course, advanced concrete bridges shouldn't be available in 1890 either.

That said, we are still dealing with a game that is an abstraction of the real world. Since a concrete bridge is modern, and 'inflation' is a factor, it would cost more in our modern inflated dollars, but be cheaper in real terms. This seems to be the route the game takes, as modern engines cost much, much more than older engines. By the time the modern engine is available, your routes are paying much more for the same loads, you have probably built a large network, and you are rolling in cash. The game seems to simulate inflation by increasing the payouts as time advances. So it is a game balancer to make advanced bridges and engines more expensive. Even if the concrete bridge is available early on, it should be so expensive that a player would choose to build with wood or brick early on, and then upgrade later.

You make your case well. I'll try to find some time this week to take a second look at the bridge(s), sort out some bugs and make it hideously expensive.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

Ok, i think i may know what's wrong. I know you made an extra file which included my slopes so both could be used, did you spell the name of my bridge file wrong? It's BRDGEART.

Steve, you're right. I'll fix it right after the NL Vehicle release.

I get the bridge but not the slopes. I've been using Steve's slopes but I'd rather have the concrete bridge slopes to go higher.

I'm sorry for bringing this up again, but I have a problem with the concrete bridge. I've seen pictures on here where people obviously have managed to get both the slopes and the normal bits working without the floating problem so that curves look fine, such as here:(Scrat's picture)

http://www.tt-forums.net/download.php?id=25420

However, for me, the flat parts are "floating" and don't look good in curves, but the slopes are working fine. I've tried both the old 1.02 version files and the 1.04 version. What am I doing wrong? How do you people manage to make it work?

Cheers.

Are you sure you have all files?
When you use the concrete slope then it has surrounding on both sides.
When you build horizontal or curves, then they aren't there.
Then you have to use the other concrete bridge, which is also in the menu.
That one is for the rest except slopes.
The needed files are:
BRDGCON1.dat
BRDGCONC.dat
trackst.dat

Ahhhh... Stupid me. I didn't think I had to select the other bridgetype manually on the list! Now it's working perfectly. Cheers mate! Looks so great! :D

I was just wondering where I could download the .dat files for the concrete bridge?
