Adding a grf after play has started problem.
I am running a late version (21900) of Open TTD. I made a game which I have been playing a week now. I realized I forgot to add the Long Vehicles grf when I first started it. This grf has some of my favorite vehicles in it.
I added this grf in but the vehicles do not show up even though I added the grf in 1918 and the first vehicle is 1920 (I think). I added it at the first screen using the "Newgrf" settings button.
1) Is it possible to add this in mid game?
2) Am I doing something wrong or ahve to hit a switch or something?
3) Other random thing that needs to be done?

a) savegame configuration can only be changed ingame. Changes on the main menu don't influence any existing scenario or savegame, they only affect newly generated scenarios and savegames.Ottomobeale wrote: 1) Is it possible to add this in mid game?

b) NewGRFs are an integral part of the savegame and should not be changed after map creation [*]
c) When there are no vehicles available anyway, it most probably doesn't hurt to start a _new_ map / game with the desired newgrf settings.

To add clarification, he means you can search these forums for something along the lines of "change newgrf in-game" or some such, and if you are diligent, you may find out how it is possible.planetmaker wrote:b) NewGRFs are an integral part of the savegame and should not be changed after map creation [*]

By my experience, adding NewGRFs to a game never caused problems, it's removing stuff that will cause problems.

Enjoy this grf then. It's not really doing something extraordinary.

Did you just make that to try to disprove my comment? All that it seemed to do was cause eGRVTS and some other GRFs to become disabled, I'm not sure what the point of it is It's obviously designed to cause adverse effects, so it would become an exception, but in a normal case you wouldn't add it anyway.planetmaker wrote:Enjoy this grf then. The point is that adding a newgrf is not always harmless.
By adding a newgrf, it may disable other ones, thus cause the same kind of effects as when you remove newgrfs.

Indeed I did. And I dedicate it to all people like you who take a "worked for me a couple of times under certain conditions" as the same as "always works correctly". Only on reasons of lazyness I did not change the properties of vehicles which other grfs define. On the same argument as yours driving at 100km/h through a pedestrian zone works without accident once implies it always has to... There are enough newgrf around which employ one or another technique I employed here.Emperor Jake wrote: Did you just make that to try to disprove my comment?

Okay, that makes sense. Just so you know, I am cautious when changing NewGRFs in any way, I always save beforehand. It's just that I like to use a lot of them too, so I sometimes forget one that I wanted.
