Enable wagon speed limits, why it does not work ?

I would like to ask why in my case advanced option "Enable wagon speed limits" does not work.

Option "Enable wagon speed limits" is disabled (set to OFF).
Only one newgrf is loaded "Canadian train set version 1.0"
I was using trunk version r22027 (win64).

Could someone please explain me why trains max speed is only 88 km/h.

Because the NewGRF you are using is deliberately ignoring the wagon speed limits feature and is using a callback to change the maximum speed for the engine as soon as you attach a wagon. As far as OpenTTD is concerned the wagon doesn't have a speed limit at all, the maximum speed of the engine is just changed. Also while AIs can work fine with wagon speed limits, changing the speed of an engine when you attach a wagon is quite likely to break the detection of all AIs to see which engine is better to use in a certain situation. Don't bother reporting this to any AI author until the newgrf is fixed.

I agree that it is annoying, but the only thing you can do is complain to the author of the canset or just don't use that set any more.

Try adding a van to your train.
1. The game I attached has been started at year 2060.
2. I tried to add the van and it hasn't helped.

The only solution could be , to use default wagons :-)

I remember in MiniIN there was a patch called "Disable engine speed limits" where trains were only limited by their power and tractive effort. :P

I'm not saying, switch back to MiniIN, but it would be nice to have this patch updated.

The author of CanSet likes to have a lot of control over how people use the set. Much like Apple... :twisted:

CanSet was designed to challenge the player by mimicking as closely as possible the reality of Canadian railroading. That the authors were able to achieve such a degree of historical accuracy in both artwork and performance within the confines of a TTD type game is indeed remarkable. The beauty of TTDPatch and OpenTTD is that the player is no longer limited to the restrictions imposed by the original TTD authors. The players now have choices in a variety of sets some of which will meet their game playing needs. If one wants the challenges of real life railroading in Canada, then CanSet is the way to go. If one merely wants to amass cash without any challenges, then I am sure that there are other offerings to satisfy their needs.

I (and others) have expressed wishes on how a set should behave (ie use the wagon speed limits feature to it can be disabled by the user if he wishes to do so. I've never tried to force the CanSet authors to actually do it, merely expressed my wish they would do so.

Edit: use of wagon speed limits feature in this post is just an example which is relevant because the topic was started with it. I think there are multiple such issues (in my opinion it are issues, the CanSet authors probably think of them as features) in the CanSet (like unwillingness to cooperate with other vehicle sets).

Nice that canset tries to make trains realistic. I am very thankful for that :bow:
But please do not forget, that openttd game has some part, that are not perfectly realistic. E.g. distance between tracks is twice bigger, than it should be ( in my opinion ! ). And that leads to a small problem, that ....

on large rail network tracks are taking more and more space and the map starts looking ugly ( again only in my opinion ). That's why, instead of building separate tracks from one industry to another, I try to lay not too much rails and put many trains on them. But for that I need all trains to go with same speed, otherwise , fast trains will be following the slow one :-) For that reason I choose one of the fastest currently available train, buy only this specific type of train and transport all possible type of cargo. Exception is a metro, because it runs in a closed circuit inside cities.

I didn't quite understand the difference ( because of my english skills ), but I give you a sample. Imagine you start a new game with some newgrfs and later you try so save it, but there comes a messages "Saving is not possible. newgrf XXX has disable this ability" Opps, it would be a bit confusing for the player, or not ? :-) The same is in "Enable wagon speed limits" case. I think newgrf is an addon for openttd and not in the opposite way.

But let's don't do a big deal out of this issue. I can live with trains rolling at 88 km/h :-)
