What good did the new server do, anyways?...
Alcohol is not the answer, it just makes you forget the question.

You may or may not notice, but it has given us much more space and so on, and when the server is working (it's only been the past couple of weeks that it's not been, and the reason for that is not entirely certain - I can only check properly at weekends), it is somewhat faster.

When the server is working, it's great. It worked perfectly for months after you got it. So I'm wondering what the problem is that they are having. I suppose you've contacted them and complained?

Yes, I'll get in touch with them again soon. It could just be that we're getting a bit too big for the resource allocation (RAM, processor time, not HD space, etc) we have, I'm not sure.

For the last two outages at least, the web server was actually fine, it was the DNS server that wasn't responding. I don't know if that's on the same server or not, though.

Hmm, that's very weird, but it does explain why my lookup didn't work. I think it would be fairly unusual for an Internet DNS to be on the same server though. Did they have anything to say about it?

It could do. But if the past few problems were the DNS servers (which aren't really my responsibility), then I'll get in touch with the web host about it. I know that there were DNS problems a couple of weeks ago, but I couldn't tell for the recent problems because I wasn't at a PC when they happened.

Apparently, this was a routing issue between Adiungo's USA datacentre (I thought we were in the UK datacentre, but we're not), and Europe, although I know some Stateside users apparently couldn't get to the forum either. :?

I know, and I'm getting very urined off about it, if you'll excuse my French. I've complained (again) to the host, and will see if anything happens.

(It's taken ages to be able to post this message)

Well, they said it was due to a load of not-quite-disconnected connections clogging the thing up. They rebooted the server, so let's see if it's any better.
