And I've found that the way the network has grown is kind of silly, to say the least, with no planning whatsoever

And first:
Line No. 1 Curly Bracket
This line was the very first one I built, hugging the coast (given that I had no money for terraforming), which was soon expanded to double-track, and then to quadruple-track because an error in the network meant that a lot more trains were being routed over it than intended. The error was that trains were going up the Curly Bracket, turning around at a random station through a depot, and coming back down the line on through the Rat's Nest and the Long Junction down to Line No. 5 Western Corridor and Maximum Overdrive (the destination), rather than going up the Curly Bracket, and going on to Line No. 4 Eastside Bypass, turning right at Uninspiring Junction, crossing Line No. 2 Shalecut Pass, and turning right at the Long Junction to Line No. 5 and Maximum Overdrive. The error was eventually found and fixed by allowing the trains to bypass the Curly Bracket and the Rat's Nest entirely, and now it lies severely below capacity. We also see Irritating Hill, which seems bent on increasing travel times.

Maximum Overdrive
Several stations designed to avoid needing to be upgraded in the future. Line No. 5 Western Corridor snakes under all this.

The Rat's Nest
An unfortunate combination of stations and lines in a small space, with a quadruple-track upgrade meaning that the confusion is great.
