ebla's incomplete projects

Post by ebla71 »

Since a lot of content got lost when scenario or NewGRF creators stopped being active here, I want to use this topic as a "storage space" for some of my scenarios and NewGRFs, that are not (yet) on a level to be published via the in-game content download and too small to justify creating a GitHub space for them.

Warning: all of this is unfinished to different degrees and might require considerable work by a player to obtain nice results. Version is OTTD v14 unless noted otherwise.

License for all content in the following posts is CC-BY-SA v3.0

Scenarios
  • duisburg-v0.66.scn - 2048x2048 map of the German port city of Duisburg
  • Germany_16k - 16k x 16k map of Germany + parts of neighboring countries, jgrpp-0.72.2 only Now published :D

Industry NewGRFs
  • PIXIS - slightly "hacked" version of XIS with some of the cargo chains modified
  • YAIS - "yet another industry set" with a blend of XIS, OTIS, FIRS, ...
Graphics NewGRFs
  • summit_marker
  • open_pit_mine

duisburg-v0.66.scn

2048x2048 map of the German port city of Duisburg

Based on German map dtk100_32_336_5696

Super-detailed with a resolution of about 20 meters per tile

- No industries and towns yet
- Landscaping and creation of road network approx. 70% complete

Germany_16k_v0.19.scn

16k x 16k map of Germany + parts of neighboring countries, jgrpp-0.63.1 only

unfortunately just a tiny bit too large for the 25 MB file limit, need to upload elsewhere

summit_marker NewGRF

Two wooden and one stone cross plus a stone cairn as summit markers

75% of graphics done but still a green "frame" around the sprites and not snow-aware

Seems to have an ID conflict with OpenGFX+ Landscape 1.1.2 as the summit marker graphics are grouped together with transmitter and lighthouse graphics from the OGFX set

open_pit_mine

Some sand-colored ground tiles for an open-pit mine, including "half-tiles" for a more smooth transition to grass

Also seems to have the ID conflict with OpenGFX+ Landscape 1.1.2 already mentioned above

I downloaded Duisburg. I won't play with reality, I'll just build. This new feature has brilliant uses. :D

Thank you very much for your continued interest in my projects. However, all of them are on hold currently as I work to finalize the Germany 16k scenario.

Unfortunately, at almost 27 MB it is too large to upload to the forum and I'm not sure about to release a partially finished scenario to the content download service, as some major rivers and a part of the northern plains are missing.

However, here is a quick preview:

Lake Constance and the surrounding parts of Austria, Switzerland, and Germany (plus all of Liechtenstein)

Sjælland with Copenhagen at the bottom left and Skåne with Malmö at the upper right.

As always luxurious. It will just have to be for the JGR patch pack. Or does vanilla support giant maps now?

Only works with JGRPP v0.63.1 and possibly higher due to the size.

The regular game is still restricted to a maximum of 8k x 8k as far as I know.

Also just tried to upload to the content service but failed twice, hope it's just my current connection and not the large file.

Thanks to Owen the upload limit has been increased and the 16k x 16k Germany scenario should be in the attachment now :D

Please note that the "landscaping" is partially incomplete so far, in particular with the placement of rivers and the finalization of the lowlands of northern Germany, Netherlands, and Poland.

Also, there are only place markers for cities, but no cities in the game yet. Same applies to industries and other NewGRFs.

Only works with JGRPP v0.63.1 and possibly higher.

Needs substantial fine-tuning in the scenario editor by interested players before ready to run.

Player level: very experienced

Today, finished the Isar and Inn valleys in the Austrian and German Alps:

The big lake in the center left is the "Starnberger See" southwest of Munich.

Will upload new version of scenario after the weekend.

In Duisburg I have trouble recognizing what is the name of a neighborhood and what is not. I created a city and then discovered that the given label is the name of a park :D
Well, that will be interesting. It just won't be the real Duisburg anymore. :) Fortunately, I recognize the street names.

Ask far as I know, there is unfortunately no option to add color to sign texts to distinguish names and I'd like to avoid things like **Meiderich** as that would look strange.

Will ultimately be solved when the scenario is complete, since then the neighborhood names will be replaced by "real" towns and cities

I plan to use the Central European town set (CET) for that since it matches very well with the region and does not grow to those cities with all the skyscrapers that personally I strongly dislike.

Since I needed a break from weeks and weeks of placing rivers in the Germany 16k scenario, I recently went back to work on the Duisburg scenario and here is an update - fresh from the scenario editor, just saved a couple of minutes ago. Finished some interesting places like "Ruhrort" but still about 30% to go. Enjoy.

I already put CET there, and I think I wrote about Hamburg a while ago that I added it there. :)
Well, and for Duisburg I also liked the new function of placing individual houses. That's just great.

The problem is that older buildings will not (or only very slowly) be replaced by CET.

I also had a problem to change the Hamburg scenario to CET, even when completely deleting a city and then adding it again after activation of the CET NewGRF - so this scenario will have to stay with the current house sets.

However, for all newer scenarios, I plan to use CET (and hope for a v1.0 version at some time).

If you want some matching buildings from a "decorative" NewGRF not a town set, I think that Polish Buildings as Objects matches quite nicely (and important to me, has a quite good selection of churches from small to very big).

For the new scenarios (Duisburg, New Netherlands, and Germany 16k) I also plan to use the new feature to come with OTTD v15 of automatically placing towns from a *.json file by just giving the coordinates instead of manual placement. That would allow to change the town NewGRF sets with great ease if interesting new alternatives come up.

I also use Polish objects. And ITL houses also behave quite well. What is a problem is TTRS and its skyscrapers. And for example, Swedish houses complement CET beautifully.
I still use Auz town commercial houses.
