Shout Out to Walter1940

Post by glenjimen »

I'm going thru and tagging all the mods made for locomotion, saving Walter1940's creations for last, because there are 10,000 of them :o I feel like many players don't use his mods becasue they see some that are very pixley, and think all his work is that way. Not so!

Unfortunately, some of Walter's mods are pixley, partially because locomotion has a limited color palette and limited choices around certain colors, partially because the original models have lots of small details, and partially because msts2loco just is that way.

However, other mods look really good and I use them in game very frequently. So, as I come across them, I want to list them here. Enjoy!
Note : I am heavily biased towards American freight cars.

First up, 55 ton two bay open hoppers. There is a gap in the US freight cars for open hoppers, around the 1940's. These fill that gap nicely, although I do reduce the cargo to about 40 tons as this seems to fit better.

Hey,
thank you for your objective opinion. It's important for me.
Unfortunately, you're right. My hands are tied because of the programmes and many details. I have always tried to get the best out of it.
Since you like US freight cars, I have the link to the works here for everyone. ---> https://www.walter1940.de/downloads/g%C ... agons/usa/

I'm really glad you like it

You're very welcome, Walter! I'm only about 1% done going thru your mods, so I'm looking forward to finding more cool stuff!

Another group of cars I really like are are these flats. The stakes are a little hard to see / pixley but I like them overall. A good option for shipping lumber, steel or goods!

Ahh, you're playing with the Belgian freight wagons.
Yes, I understand. Unfortunately, the logs are not very big. (see picture) That makes it look pixelated. Sorry. Sometimes I am not completely happy with the result also.

Been progressing slowly, but here are a few more! Australian trains. 8)

Turns out, I really like gondolas and open hoppers. And the tiger stripes on the ends of this diesel turned out really well.

One day, I'll play thru an Australian scenerio. For now I'm going to keep plugging away at tagging all the mods. Thanks for keeping this old game alive everyone!

Sorry folks, I had to set this project aside for... almost a year. But I'll get back at it, and finish tagging all of Walter's objects. (roughly halfway thru)

So here goes another group of railcars I particularly like, old-time log flats called : D K.Bay.St.B.Timber flat wagon (KBFW1,2,3,4 .dat)
The four cars are identical when unloaded, but each receives a different arrangement of logs, making for some very nice eye candy! They break up the monotony of the default flatcar with stakes that you're stuck with for decades, until you unlock bulkhead flat cars and the like from the US mega pack.
And the LPS Caboose (LPSC1.dat) finishes off the train nicely :D

Very nice
Doesn't match the era, but that doesn't matter. :D

BTW the abbreviation "K.Bay.St.B." means "Königlich Bayerische Staatseisenbahnen" (Royal Bavarian State Railways)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Bav ... e_Railways

But I'm very pleased that someone is still working or playing with it after all these years.
