Went train riding on Thursday 22nd June from Newcastle to Dungog. The main reason was to take photos from the window of farm buildings to get some ideas for my AuzFarmObjects.

This photo of the train I traveled on called a Hunter.

When I re-boarded the train for the return journey I was the only passenger till we got to Paterson.
So took a photo of a carriage full of empty seats.

Retro expres

Post by belgi »

Here is a video of a retro train that took Slovak tourists from the South Bohemian town of Vimperk home to Bratislava. The train arrived from Slovakia already on Friday, June 30, 2023, but I don't even have photos of that. Tourists visit different places on their train route, they have sleeping cars and two dining cars, so they spend most of the journey on the train. The train is always hopelessly sold out immediately. And on Sunday, July 2, he was returning to Slovakia. Since I was at work, I thought of making a video of him. It's not very good (and it can't be put here in its original size, so I had to make it smaller), but the sound of that historic locomotive is admired by many railway enthusiasts.

Went to Italy on holiday; wasn't really there for trains but did take a short ride on the Centovalli railway between Domodossola (IT) and Locarno (CH) (which makes it an international railway line I suppose). It's used "normally" too but also as a bit of a tourist-y thing as it's winding through the Alps over lots of viaducts and through tunnels and in all sorts of corners and so on ...

The Domodossola departure station is right below the main station of Domodossola, which I suppose isn't too weird for a local line. But if you enter from opposite the main entrance you just sorta walk right across the tracks on a major station; underground, with no gates or anything. Just found that to be slightly weird (in the many stops on the line that are request-only you also of course often walk across tracks and whatnot, I'm just saying it's a bit notable for being in such a major location ^^).

There's actually quite a bit of rolling stock around for the line. Also some real run-down stuff, including cargo carriages (not sure they are still used, maybe rarely).

During the night shift, or rather at the end of it, in the morning I thought of filming some trains...

Chasing trains and taking videos and photos of trains and stations in the Newcastle area in Australia.
This signal box at Adamstown recently been restored and it is going to be used by a model railway club.
Image
Many of the disused signal boxes would make excellent viewing platforms for those like watching trains.
Manage to catch the fettlers hard at work picking up the grain that spilled from a grain train recently.

Graffiti artists very busy painting anything that they can. Here some sound proof fences with their artwork. We even have some coal trains with 96 wagons and almost every wagon been gratified.

Watch a double header steam train today. It had 2 steam locos up front, then 2 water tanks, 7 carriages, 3 diesels and then 6 more carriages.
The stainless steel carriages are for the volunteers that be working the train and looking after passengers.

Uploaded on YouTube a few videos I taken the past week or 2.

This video was taken at Kotara on Thursday 2nd November 2023. When seen it approaching it look like just a new light engine but got a surprise as it had a string of new container wagons. Wondering how many freight wagons there on this train.

At Adamstown 26 October 2023 when the QUBE steel train came out of the Broadmeadow Yards heading towards Sydney. The road was also set for something to enter the yard coming from Sydney.

Thought I show you the trains that I normally travel on.
I get the bus from home to either Cardiff, Cockle Creek or Teralba railway stations where I can catch an electric train (EMU).

Have a choice of 2 types and they can be either a 4 or 8 car set.
These images are of the V sets. Built between 1970 and 1989. When first introduced they had a blue front and trim and had the nick name blue goose.
They usually operate express services except in morning and evening when they stop all stations to pick and set down school kids.
