NEW GRAPHICS NEEDED
As many of you probably know, there will be some new industries in OTTD. For now, there will be two common indutries per climate, plus two exclusive industries per climate (which are specific to one climate only, with the exception of the fishery). Of course there is a need for new graphics for those industries, some new vehicle graphics, and some new sprites. Below is the exact list of the needed things, along with the preferred maximum dimensions for an industry. You are welcome to post your work here, so it can be commented by other users and the developers.
Industry graphics
* a chemical factory (common) - an industry which produces chemicals, 3x3 claimed by eddy, i think
* a chemical processing plant (common) - an industry where fertilizer and explosives are produced from chemicals, 4x4 claimed by eddy, i think
* a textile mill (temperate) - an industry which produces textiles, 3x3 Born Acorn has proven again that HE IS THE MAN
* a weaving mill (temperate) - an industry which produces goods from textiles, 4x4 done? please tell me if so. Born Arcorn
* an oil power plant (arctic) - an industry which accepts refined oil, size similar to the coal power plants
* a fishery (arctic/tropical) - an industry placed near the edge of the map, produces fish, 2x2 done: Born Acorn
* a water desalinization plant (tropical) - an industry placed near the edge of the map, which produces drinking water from sea water, 2x3 done? please tell me if so. Born Acorn
Cargo graphics (sprites) + their preferred form
* chemicals - barrels, perhaps?
* fertilizer - preferably bags, heaps would also be OK
* explosives done: Born Acorn
* textiles - rolls?
* refined oil - barrels?
* fish - crates
New vehicles
Trucks (two types of more, I don't know how many are there exactly) and train carriages (regular, monorail and maglev styled) for each of the above
* explosives train car/trucks: done: Born Acorn
* fish train car - Born Acorn has done it again
* fertilizer train car - vamcompost car? not sure
You may want to reuse some existing graphics, but please be aware of specific requests from their authors http://tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=7812. It's a good idea to share your plans for reusing graphics with the developers first.

i woke up feeling like i needed to do a full conversion set for ttd, so thats's just what i did, eusing trains on the japan project, but adapted to standard graphics ina 1:1 replacement. Just the maglevs are left, and all wagons but passenger and mail. All trains have been painted in player colours and are mostly original (i mean, mine, some are from Korenn and Hovering Teacup) So i won't release it until i've got permission from them
Any graphics program is fine, I think. Usually just the finished image is needed (flat). Then it's cut up and loaded into the GRF file. You might want to search the forums for posts about the palette and company colors.crilen007 wrote:Is there a special program we need to create these graphics?
I'd like to help out and create some stuff.
Everytime i use that search function I get nothing relevant to what im lookin for haha.
Maybe I should make a page to keep good informative posts on, for information like this.
Perhaps with a tree design for separating different things (like the MSDN)
Anywho. So I can use photoshop, and just use one of the templates?
Who loads it into the GRF? the devs?

Yes.crilen007 wrote:Who loads it into the GRF? the devs?
I attached a palette containing 8 different shades of company colors. These 8 colors are replaced in the game with the appropriate ones. For other stuff you should use the pallette from a screenshot (I'll post an image containing all the colors when I find it...).
Please keep in mind, that it's a good and desired practice to put objects in separate tiles. By doing so, you make it possible to create different looking industries from the same set of tiles. Many of the industries in OTTD are made this way. For example, although the coal power plants look different, they all contain the same tiles arranged in different ways. On the other hand, the factory contains subsets of four tiles each - those subsets can still be moved around if kept together. So basically you might want to create separate tiles (or groups of tiles), which will be arranged later on.
Below are some links to photos for inspiration, and some comments.

textile/weaving mill: http://all-photo.ru/photos/photos/6090-0.jpg (I think these two should look a lot like some factory + rolls of textiles and crates of goods)
oil power plant: like existing coal power plants + some tanks and pipes and some high chimneys, perhaps
fishery: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/errol21/W ... ishery.jpg, http://www.pref.fukushima.jp/gif/14.jpg
water desalinization plant: two very good photos: http://energy.inel.gov/powersystems/pho ... n-view.jpg, http://energy.inel.gov/powersystems/pho ... loseup.jpg;

I hope this helps.

when i'll get home i'll start a.s.a.p. on some things. i really like drawing. now i have a question: them industries don't need to be in company colours?
another question: i'm really looking forward to drawing graphics for stations, which in the usual ttd(patch) is still a bit underdone... so, is there any animo for new station graphics in openttd?
thanks in advance, and you'll see work from me in a couple of weeks. maybe erlier.

So, what if we want to use these colors?
Choose a different shade?
Also, the colors, is it 256?
Tileset
I am gonna work from this file, it basically allows you to work off of tilesets.
I included the Photoshop version, and PNG.
The photoshop has each tile in a separate layer, so you can separate them if you want.
Let me know if i should change anything?

A I understand it, it is the palette number of the colour that is important and not the actual colour value. This is why it is fast to do the colour keying with a 256 colour paletted image. There should be other similar colours avialible that you can use.crilen007 wrote:
