was running Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe and Malwarebytes suddenly decided that it was Ransomware.
It looks like I can restore it. But before I do I would like to know why this has happened.

False-positive by Malwarebytes. It's known to happen occasionally.

It's more than likely a false positive, OpenTTD has many successful users running it without any fault. If you are in any doubt, make sure you have, or even redownload it from, the official website which is at https://openttd.org.
Malwarebytes, and honestly, all anti-virus software, can come up with false positives for many executables you innocently, and accurately download online. This is one you can almost certainly ignore, especially after doing the above if you are in any doubt.
