News items delay in multiplayer.

Post by mauried »

Dont know whether this is a bug or just how the game works.
When playing in multiplayer many of the news items appear after a random delay , sometimes many minutes, from the event that triggered them.
A good example is subsidies where some players will received the subsidy being offered message much later than other players do.
Same goes with industries opening and closing where its common for another player to tell me that an industry near one of my stations is closing even though I dont get the same news message until much later.
Another example is when a player founds a town the message that a new town has been created can be minutes later for the other players.
Is this caused by some setting in the News/advisors.
tnx

It's probably some messages being shown as ticker-style, yes.

If a message is shown as a ticker message, the next message won't show until the ticker has finished scrolling by, and if there's a lot of ticker messages queued up, that can delay things a lot.

One example of something that can make things bad is if you play on a large map with "Smooth economy" setting. Then there might be 5 or 10 industries with production changes every month, which can really bog down the news ticker. In that case it's best to set those news categories to not show at all.

Thanks , yes news ticker is enabled.
I never knew what it did.
I gather its best to have this disabled.
