GETS 0.1.5 released
GETS 0.1.5 is here.
Besides a first package of hoppers (I've learnt how spritestacking works), there's the usual bit of everything.
A few more locos and coaches, modern sliding door vans, fixed buy menu - but take a look yourself:
See the full res picture here: As always: Please leave comments and stuff, Download available via Ingame Downloader.

Cool,
Love the update especially the Kalsruher DVT.
The old TEE is also a work of art
Nice one!

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
This set is getting very interesting!
Any chance of adding some TEE coaches?
Specially the 103, 110 and 120 would look even better with these. This would allow the 103 and 120 to run at full speed before 1988.
But it's your choice what you add next, and at what pace you want to work on this.

This set is amazing!
Is there any chance that there would be 2CC for this and/or and Austrian Set similiar to this one in development some time in the far future?

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
Many thanks for all of your kind words, that really keeps me going.
Concerning the Austrian stuff, sadly the same. Only thing i can do is encourage everyone to try drawing by theirselves - It's easy and fun
Special thanks to you for your ongoing support!
As for the TEE-coaches, they surely will be added - it's just a matter of time.
As for the 2CC, this is kind of against the design behind all this. I'm old enough to never say never, but it's not a planned feature.Marius_Mustang wrote: ↑26 Jun 2022 09:56 This set is amazing!

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
Let's start with a big 'Thank you' for this great vehicle set, even in this early stage it is quite playable already
Some suggestions (mainly to add more train variation, most involve visible cargo):
KPEV T3 or any other cheap start era locomotive with Lokalbahn coaches
BR50 with randomized tender types
Some suggestions (mainly to add more train variation, most involve visible cargo):
- Formally, an early Altona is for small cattle. Cows and so on were transported in vehicles with code VO which are practically roofless G02's.
- Stake wagons and low side wagons. If we have cargo we want to see it
- Early type Wood carriers: These are the normal short low side wagon but operated in pairs when very long logs are loaded.
- Long and short versions for some of the modern vehicles (grain car, sliding wall goods van etc)
- 'Topfwagen' for chemical transport as an alternative to the tank car
- Stay away from the closed coil carriers as these are boring.
- More specialized vehicles (car carriers, RoLa)
- Being able to convert the Era3 and up UIC type goods van to cattle carrier (with the hatches open)
- High capacity steel cars, which can also be used for other loads (SSy type).
- Adding the 'Kriegsbauart' version of the open cars with the increased load capacity to span the gap between the pre-war and post-war vehicles
- More variants of the PWg, both in color (not just red) and in shape (Dresden shaped, MCi43 based ones, ex passenger vehicles) and speed.
KPEV T3 or any other cheap start era locomotive with Lokalbahn coaches
BR50 with randomized tender types

Unless you actually code the set in one massive file, or I'm missing something, I can't help feeling like "releasing the source as one massive NML file", while technically within GPLv2, is kinda missing the spirit of it... do you have a repo with your component files somewhere?

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
Just noticed that this had received an update recently, will have to play around with it again.
Did notice that a few of the names are having different styles where some are "xx/yy" and others "xx/ yy", I assume these are meant to be all similar?

I see one giant NML file with 45,000 lines, am I being dumb and missing something here, or are there some other NML files I'm not seeing?wyndbain wrote: ↑10 Aug 2022 09:36Should all be on the githubaudigex wrote: ↑10 Aug 2022 00:09 Unless you actually code the set in one massive file, or I'm missing something, I can't help feeling like "releasing the source as one massive NML file", while technically within GPLv2, is kinda missing the spirit of it... do you have a repo with your component files somewhere?

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
Looking at the source code, I believe that file is simply the way the code is set up. There are no component files because there just aren't. NML doesn't natively support component files, so it's not too strange to not see them.
Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
NML doesn't natively support component files, but basically every other set (other than small sets, which this isn't) breaks them up and then uses C/Python to combine them before compiling
Maybe I'm wrong in this instance, in which case I'll apologise if I'm off base - but I find it surprising that someone would write a single 45,000 line NML file - I maintain a set which has a 40,500 line NML file and it's broken up into ~200 files, and even then some of those files are so unwieldy I find them awkward to work with

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
Time for some answers, isn't it?
So let's start from top to bottom - with a big thank you for your feedback first.
So in the future there will be much more of them. I don't want to get too much into detail, but the next update will have more tankers, more bulk hoppers and more open wagons.
I'll just ask for your patience here. Your BR 50 wish has been heard, it's drawn and coded already.

Visible Cargo and goods wagons is a thing i'm aware of. When i'm working on new trains i'm spending like half of the time on new goods wagons.

Thanks for pointing that out. The names definetly need an update and some corrections. I've added that on my To-Do list.
Erato is right: There is only this one NML-file. Why? I'm absolutely not a programmer or any kind of IT-guy. So, to be honest, i don't know anything about separating files, i can't code in Python or C.audigex wrote: ↑12 Aug 2022 00:45 NML doesn't natively support component files, but basically every other set (other than small sets, which this isn't) breaks them up and then uses C/Python to combine them before compiling

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
That's fair enough, then, if that's how you actually write it (in which case, respect to you for managing it! That's a hell of an unwieldy file)

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
No problem with waiting for the next release... only it's a bit annoying having to resort to using CZTR wagons that end up more expensive than the locomotive
Keep up the good work!
Keep up the good work!
Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
Because the speed limit for the wagons in GETS is too low?
Most seem to be limited at 50 km/h in the current NML file on github. I think I'll do a simple find & replace later today to see if I can make these wagons work at decent speeds on my local machine at least.

Re: [32bpp] GETS - German Extrazoom Train Set (development)
How it's going with your beautiful set?
Any chance for an update anytime soon?
No pressure, just interested how it is going

GETS 0.1.6 released
GETS 0.1.6 is here - This may look weird with savegames!
A whole lot of stuff changed. First and foremost tank engines do proper reversing now.
I had to change quite a lot of code, so this may result in weird behaviour when updating from an older version.
Steam engines have all been recoded and a bunch of freight wagons has been added.
