FRIMS - Future Reality Inspired Maglev Set 1.3 (24-02-2020)

Post by Erato »

FRIMS - Future Reality Inspired Maglev Set
From the makers of RIMS, a maglev set geared towards the future. The trains in this set have been designed to fit the looks of RIMS. The trains in this set are loosely based in reality. The Shinkansens are a "What-If" scenario; "What if Japan doesn't stop at the Chuo Shinkansen". The SUMA 550 is based on the existing prototype. And last but not least, fan favourite has returned; the ECCO. This set is completely compatible with the Maglev Track Set, and even unlocks a new tracktype. This set currently contains 11 trains, with the first one released in 2018, and the last one in 2119.

Nice! Definitely going to be using this from now on!

Oooh lovely! Is the ECCO based on a real concept? I'm only seeing shoes when I try to look it up...

The ECCO is based on a real vehicle by General Atomic.

Ah; thanks for the info. I keep thinking General Atomics isn't a real company because it's a thing in Fallout as well.

Interesting and educational stuff. Had to look into that Bögl thing as well. Kinda doubt it's ever going to be used anywhere much, but nice to see that the technology isn't dead ^^

When you turn on 2cc, the menu icons for all the new maglevs are incorrect.

Hi again, I think the same running cost issue is occuring with this GRF, as happened in RIMS, which necessitated the removal of the separate parameter for high speed trains. When high speed running costs are set to 4x, the L400 Shinkansen's running cost goes down to £3750 per year when it should be £261,000. Strangely this is the only vehicle that is affected.

Ah, yes I wanted to upload it after I added some trains, but apparently that never happened. So without any further ado

WARNING: If you update to this version, some parameters might be changed, for instance the flags might be swapped for logos, some maglev sets might be disabled, and some cost might be changed significantly. If this is the case - and it likely is -, you should change the settings back. My apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I love the Transrapid 09 in RIMS because of the ability to carry certain express cargoes in addition to passengers and mail. As a result, I tend not to use anything from FRIMS, despite the massive speed increase available. (That is, besides the ECJET. Storage density ahoy!)

Do you intend to add faster versions of the Transrapid to FRIMS at some point?

The answer to this can be either "There already is" or "No" depending on how cynical you are.

RI in FRIMS stands for "Reality Inspired". Siemens and Thyssenkrupp stopped testing in 2011, and by 2012 the demolition of the test site was approved. A faster Transrapid will never be built, and so making one would be not within the "Reality Inspired" framework.

However, China obtained the technology, and started working on their own train. This is the CR600MF that's already in FRIMS. You might've actually seen this train in the news, and it's basically a successor to the Transrapid.

Good to know. I did do some research and found the Chinese Transrapid line, thus my asking. The CR600MF doesn't have a goods wagon, though, and can't use the Transrapid one. Is this intentional? I'd like to have trains that can match the Lev4 Chimera for speed, and also carry goods.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, "I would like to see more options for carrying goods than just the Transrapid and ECCO/ECJET."

You could always load in the Vactrain set as well, most of them can still keep up with other maglevs outside of the tubes ;)

Yes. Fast freight is hella unrealistic and without any good large scale use-case. I'm not going to make more of that.

Good reason. Thank you for listening and for your work. *tips hat*

(To explain my reasoning here: "Fast freight is hella unrealistic" is why I only mentioned Goods. I noticed the fact that the ECCO and ECJET were the only freight trains you had made, and assumed that you had a reason for that. However, a Goods car for the Transrapid made me think, "Okay, why don't the other high-speed maglevs have a Goods car? ... Probably on purpose, won't bother asking about that. Freight *is* heavy, even express cargoes. Why doesn't the *other* locomotive on the Transrapid track have a Goods car? If they're the same technology, why can't it use the Transrapid one? That one might be an oversight. I better check." Thus, I asked.)
