Hotspot Watch
A user could 'bookmark' a spot on the map and by quickly pressing a button they could jump directly there.
For example, if there is a part of the rail network that sometimes gets congested and requires manual shunting of trains. A user could quickly jump to that part of the map to check on it.

Yeah, that could be very useful in some situations. Also it shouldn't be too hard to code, I think

I was thinking of this very idea just the other day.
Another thing, combined with this: screensaver mode
You have a setting where you can start the program and let it run, and it will skip through hotspots and watch them for 30 seconds each. Probably too much effort to make a cross platform screensaver module, but for a poorman's screensaver, would be interesting. Especially when you are just waiting for some money to roll in...

a similar thing is already there, the newspaper!Airtaxi Pilot wrote:A user could 'bookmark' a spot on the map and by quickly pressing a button they could jump directly there.

when you click on it, example on disaster info, or lost train info, you will be automatically transported to the location

Thats not what I am talking about.Wolf01 wrote:a similar thing is already there, the newspaper!

For example, sometimes you have rail networks that run perfectly most of the time, but occasionaly a junction or station gets congested and trains can not move.
The idea is that you could quickly switched between parts of the map.

click on the info screen when appear "train## is lost"Airtaxi Pilot wrote:Thats not what I am talking about.Wolf01 wrote:a similar thing is already there, the newspaper!

i think that a similar thing is a lot of work for nothing because is already in the game
Re: Hotspot Watch
"Train is lost" only appears after 180 days. By that time, you tend to have a major problem. If you could keep an eye on a section more easily, you could avoid the problem until you can get round to improving the layout.Wolf01 wrote: click on the info screen when appear "train## is lost"

I don't think it would actually be much work: a new window which calls the same routine as the newspaper/info windows or the location button in industries/towns and a way of making these links yourself.
Re: Hotspot Watch
You can set it to any amount of days you want.mpettitt wrote:"Train is lost" only appears after 180 days. .

But he's not only talking about some junctions which might cause some troubles.
It could be used too for switching between a competitor that's building something, and you building something.
It could be used to quicly find a certain spot. Not only when there's actually happening something.
All those newspapers and messages are just examples. (And they're temporary)

Great idea, when I opened this topic up I accually thought it was related to a debugging type thing... eg.
Hotspot a peice of track or a specfific square an if somthing happens it notifys you
But this idea is good too. (a replacement for the alt-1 combo
).. another one on top of it would be another view port window for a hotspot, like the ones for each vichle execpt its always focused on the hotspot. Dont know how it would be brought up however,
