Monumental Buildings

Post by AlienDNA »

Everybody knows the frustration of a city that suddenly decides to decimate it's buildings, and replace some very high office blocks with fountains. Away with the goods-accepting station, and gone are your profits.

I once played Industry Giant, and there it was possible to make a building a monument. It wouldn't go away. It was done by selecting a square when you selected the building details.

Perhaps this should be possible in OTTD as well. It would secure your goods-transport. But a monument requires upkeep, and a max of 3 monuments per city, in total (to balance the use of it)

Another suggestion I made somewhere else is also about this. If monuments are a bad idea, then use warehouses. You build them like a water-tower, and it will accept goods. This warehouse was actually featured in the old TT. Never seen it since. Toyland has an equivalent: piggy bank.

Well, there actually are warehouses in OTT! Just spotted them in the temperate climate, after about 2000 there are plenty of them.

That is so cheap

It's just a normal building. Not a real warehouse holding cargo, or anything similar to that :).

And the point is: IT ACCEPTS GOODS, completely on its own.

Now, to prevent endless frustration and profitloss because a town changes a high-tech beautifull commercial building into a stupid fountain, you should either be able to keep this building in town by making it a monument, or you should be able to build it like a water tower.

Am I that vague?

Oh, insert this one in the artic and tropical climate as well, why shouldn't people living there have any warehouses?

Wouldn't it be easier to just add something to (or remove something from) the code so that useless buildings aren't built?

I think this is a good idea. It is sooo annoying when useful buildings are replaced with fountains.

 What about purchasing existing buildings and paying an upkeep. This way the local council could never knock it down and you would have more control over the citys.

or having a weighting for each building type.

so that only buildings with a higher rating will replace the current building.
