split one rail to two

Post by Greeny »

I think there should be a way to force trains to seperate so one train takes one track and then the next train takes the other track it pays no atention to the lights it just splits.

This would help a lot with trains going to a train station, tunnels, bridges and so on

It would be go if you could do this with as many tracks as you like.

I would love it if this was added to openttd
Thanks

Isn't that enough?

Maybe have a look to the documentation of pre-signals in the ttdpatch-documentation.

and to join 2 or more tracks in one to handle the exit of a lot of trains from the stations? (60 or more trains in a 16 tile station, high velocity junction)

You Many have a situation like this there is a birdge up the rail and it is very long so you would like to split the rail as far back as possible but the trains don't split evenly so one side is blocked and the other is not.

It would help if the train was forsed to go every second track

You need signals my friend. Signals and pre-signals. In fact, you should just be able to do it with normal signals.

The time between trains changes so there will never be a even split.

That's because you're incorrectly using pre-signals.

The first signal at the split on each rail should be an entrance signal (horizontal yellow band). Further signals should be midway signals (vertical yellow band). The last signal should be the exit signals (vertical white band).

That will cause the trains to split, although I'd be wary about putting the signals the entire length of a long split as the lines will be blocked if there are trains on both lines.

I *think* that some of the presignal stuff ignores intermediate signals, so if the two exits were replaced with the combos, and the real exits placed several blocks down the track, the other signals would be ignored by the presignal mechanism. Of course, it would render the intermediate signals entirely pointless ...

Surely that's the whole point, otherwise you get the same situation as now where the trains just all pile down the same track.

Have I entirely missed a section of the game? I thought I could build two way signals, and thisway signals, and thatway signals. What're all these other signals?
