Junction challenge

Post by Zimmlock »

Greetings,

I have been reading a lot about challenges and junctions in several topics and have made a "one junction" challenge.

The goal is to construct a more or less "realistic" looking junction in the center square of the map that can handle all traffic with a minimum of delay.

The rules:
- its absolute forbidden to remove Transmitters and Lighthouses.

- all industries have to be serviced.

- you have to transport the coal to the powerplant marked with the
sign "The Powerplant"; lifestock and grain to "The Factory"; steel from "The Steelmill" to "The Factory";ect, ect. Production plants generated by the game are not allowed to be used, except the Oil refinery.

- Its not allowed to make changes to the scenario and/or start inundations during the game.

- you are free to use every cheat available, except the Debugger.

- you can use what ever configuration (ttdpatch.cfg) you like.

- you are free to use the grafix you like

Hope we can enyoy a lot of screenies

Hmm, if we cant use the new industires it creates, how do we tell them apart? I guess we'll just have to blow em up straight away.

And why are we allowed to use Oil refinerys it creates?

And next silly thing i discovered... How are we meant to make a junction with all the road there? And we cant get rid of it because of the towns...

It seems we'll have to use A LOT of patch features / cheats just to follow the rules and do the challenge :/

Well, bit of a multipost here, but here is the scenario i'm using.

I have edited out all the roads in the editor, so i've broken a rule already. So, you dont need to use this at all. (I'm not sure how your meant to play the old map)

Question - is flooding the transmitters considered a removal?

My solution - get some ships, connect all the industries and let the feeder service run.

Nice idea. I just made a mega junction! (Biggest i have ever made myself)
I've got a dozen trains so far, and its barely getting used.

I made something within the rules. Though I couldn't follow the junction theme... in the other hand, I hate junctions (as in "Mega Massive Handle It All"). Thus I made a feeder service through the edges of the map. I didn't use any cheat codes either, just made enough room to two docks and started moving coal - £150 000 is enough to begin with.

Another system I could have used would've been the planes. But I didn't want to cheat year to near the end of the game to move stuff efficiently

I was just spacing things out.

Perhaps my Steel Mill left because of not being used. But i couldnt see a label for it either.

You may of noticed all the villages are a bit teeny. So after much investment, and a plane service, the small village of Budworth is now a goods accepting town!

The sawmill station has been split into 2 lanes, Outward goods collection, and inward trains. 2 trains are just stopped on the layby until they are needed later.

My idea is similar to uzurpator's idea.

My train junction would get clogged up with all the trains using it, so I decided a junction, that handels about 8 trains, (long trains).

And at each enterance was a large relay station, (My most used idea.)

So there would be minium traffic on it.

 Not part of the rules. :D

I've got 40 trains running now, but the middle bit is getting some delays.
The goods trains from the factory dront go through the junction, as the only goods town is in the same sector. So techinally, just 34 trains pass through this junction. (And 1 plane flies over the top)
