I try to make estonian translation. But I have a problem. This "strgen.exe" is not working. If I write
"D:\Games\OpenTTD>strgen.exe lang\estonian.txt"
then there comes some errors:
2307: ERROR: Undefined command 'REV' in 'lang\estonian.lng'
2307: ERROR: Undefined command 'REV' in 'lang\estonian.lng'
2307: ERROR: Undefined command 'INT32' in 'lang\estonian.lng'
2307: ERROR: Undefined command 'CURRCOMPACT' in 'lang\estonian.lng'
Now there is a "estonian.lng" file in the "lang" folder but it is not working.

I tried to do the same on the "englsish.txt". After that I had no english version of OpenTTD. When I started OpenTTD it was in czech.

EDIT: oops  . My bad. Now I downloaded the new "strgen.exe" and it works

EDIT2: Where I should inform develpers that I would like to translate it?

EDIT3: Wher could I find character table for ISO 8859-1. I need letter "š" ("s" with caron). I think there must be a letter like this.
Sorry about my english. I am not a native speaker.

ISO-8859-1 overview http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/charset/latin1.gif
there are no "š", but that's fixable if it's the only char you miss. OTTD reads the the char number (0-255) and replaces that with a sprite from a grf file. If there is an unused char (¾ or similar) we can make it link to a sprite, which shows "š"
I have not checked what chars, which are unused, and I know OTTD uses some already (train/ship/... icons in station names)
I will investigate this possibility, but I will not promise anything

translations should be uploaded as patches on http://sourceforge.net/projects/openttd (SF for short)

Or..
Maybe have more than one grf, and let the translator choose which one to use?

Actually I have two letters "š" and "ž". If there is no way to put them in this table then I will use "s" and "z". There is a little pronunciation difference. I have only one word for each of these letters. "rubber" - I think it is actually kautschuk and I will translate it "kautšuk" . And the color orange is "oranž".

In this table there are many symbols that are useless. For example what is the point of inverted question mark?

It is used in the spanish translation

Spanish sentences that end with ? or ! have a inverted ? or ! at the beginning of the sentence...

Ok. Now I know.

Is it hard to make an extra character table? If there comes a symbol that nobody uses (for example "¾") then the next character would be taken form the other table...

We (the developers) have talked about this and have decided that it will not be worth the time. The time will be much better used if it's used on changeing to unicode. The Russian and Asian players would likely prefer that solution
However it will mean a lot of changes in the code and will take a while to do, so don't hold your breath

Hi,

I found an error in the German translation.
There is a Sugar Truck and a Candy Truck. The German translation for Candy is "Bonbons" but the German name of the Truck is "Zuckerlaster" which means sugar truck. "Bonbontransporter" would be the correct translation.
I would change the .lng file by myself, but I don't know how to "de-compile" the file to change the names.
Who is responible for the German translation so far?

Bye

I downloaded the current german.txt and it is already changed there.
So I compile that one and use it for myself.

I already fixed it in the current SVN. Thanks. Look at "german.txt" to fix strings.

?(
Now I downloaded the latest german.txt, english.txt (over source) and strgen.exe (nightly builds) and would like to compile the german.txt to german.lng

command:
strgen lang/german.txt

There is now error message and a new german.lng was created. But at the game there is no language German available anymore
What did I wrong????

you need to use the nightly build of the game too. Strgen have to fit with the version of OTTD
you can get the version of strgen with

Code: Select all

strgen --version
or

Code: Select all

strgen -v
The version of OTTD is displayed in the title menu/main menu

Ok, thanks for that info. :)

btw: strgen -v does not work. There is no error but there is also no version number :?
As I see from the coding and if my small C knowledge is not false, the nightly build was made without the flag "WITH_REV". That should be the reason, why -v does not work.

Could you add a line in help->about for translator? Then I can add there my e-mail address for people who have found spelling mistakes or have suggestions for pharaphrasing some translations.

That's currently not possible, I'm afraid, due to the character set.
