I'm playing around with some different alien tower designs. What is the maximum height for a building? Is it 255px?

The max hight for the boundingbox is 255 pixels (FF in Hexadecimal), everything higher will glitch (and planes will fly through them).

Updated: animated version

Space farm, utilizing OGFX fields as a base. Plan is to show a farm going through a yearly cycle, though probably compressed into a 3 month timeline for more yields in a calendar year. Also, blinky lights, because, well, blinkies are fun :)

Revised idea for an ice mine. I borrowed a few graphics from OpenGFX+ Mars for the conveyor, generator, building and airlocks.

I'm still not happy with the tower assembly - I may end up just scrapping it and try to figure out some other conveyor mechanism. I haven't really investigated asteroid mining concepts yet, so that may yield some better ideas.

Hmm, maybe I should incorporate Shai Hulud.

I came across this one, which looks pretty cool. I'll probably base the ore mining off it.

Ok, so I think I'm going to go ahead and make this an official thing. I've been bouncing around a couple names - Rockhoppers, Rockhounds, but I think I'm going to just go with Belters.

I got some new terrain working based on the awesome work done for OpenGFX Mars. In fact, I'm using the rest of that set for placeholders right now.

The starfield background for the water is still an ugly mess. I'm still trying to find something that works without looking entirely too repetitive. I even tried plain black, but the ships need a reference point to pass over or they just look like they are standing still.

For my mini alien invasion newgrf I need a government facility. Here's a first pass at it.

I positioned the helicopter pad so that the airport heliport can be placed in that location, but with the facility graphics hiding it. Has anyone tried this before?

Still playing around with different ideas for the alien tower for my Invasion! newgrf. Still not happy with it. The little blue flame thing on the right side is intended to be a portal - I'm planning to animate little people going through it.

Looking at it again, it looks like its wearing a feather boa and holding a lighter like BB-8. I'm going to try a floating sphere in Blender, I think.

It is indeed a very fabulous alien tower.

Thank you for exploring this concept. Your graphics are lovely and the asteroid/space idea is quite exciting. I loved the Toyland2Mars set and the OpenGFX Mars project is pretty cool, but it's always nice to have a change of setting, and one which is rather original at that.

I hope we'll be able to play around with it at some point. :)

I like that tower, the very first impression to me, is that this is an "enderman-building", they are both mainly black with some purple particles around.
I suggest to not throw it away, it looks pretty cool!

Plot twist: turns out the endermen are our overlords, both in Minecraft and in TTD.

If you want weird but still sci-fi looking 2D building sprites, I can't not suggest Afterlife as an inspiration perhaps, especially Hell structures (examples).

Oh, good call on Afterlife! I've never heard of it, but the sprites are awesome! I was trying to do something like that crystal one, but could never get it right. I'm going to have to take closer look at these.

You're right, that is similar. I had to look up Enderman though - I'm afraid I don't know much about Minecraft.

At some point, yeah.

I've decided I want to get the Invasion one done first, since that's small and it'll irritate me if I don't finish SOMETHING up ;)

For the Belters/Asteroid one, I'm playing with some ideas. I have a draft industry chain written up, but I'm not sure its a project I want to take on solo.

Anyone else want to build an Asteroid colony with me? :)

How about a fireworks object where you could choose the date to have it fire off as a parameter.
